Anyone with a 3D printer in Sussex

In fact, I think its easier if i do the photos for each piece as a separate reply. This one is for the planer extraction.

Anyone with a 3D printer in Sussex

I am making good progress with a restoration project on a Kity 636 planer. It is missing the extraction hoods for the planer and thicknesser modes, however I have come accross some 3d printable files for the machine. I don't have a 3D printer, but was wondering if anyone locally (I live near...

    Rust Remover for Tool Restoration

So I tried out the 'Restore Rust Remover'. I ended up speaking to Paul at Shield Technologies quite a bit for advice on specifics, but it resulted in me also purchasing an ultrasonic cleaner which I am actually really pleased with. It looks like it will come in handy in the future for cleaning...

    Rust Remover for Tool Restoration

Thanks! I have dipped in metal guard and left to dry, have a long process ahead of me cleaning and then protecting all 600 components or so!

    Rust Remover for Tool Restoration

So - I have made a start on the process of cleaning all the small parts. Now the plain steel parts are fine, stick them in a jar in the ultrasonic cleaner and they come up lovely in 10-20 mins or so. However.... Two Questions: 1. For some reason a select few parts of the machine are blackened...

    Petrol powered planer…

I always like to keep an eye on Facebook marketplace to see if there are any good old tools etc going locally. I came across this today, a petrol powered planer. Is this a thing, I’ve never heard of or seen one before!

How best to partially thin stripwood

Im also happy to offer to do the same as what @MorrisWoodman12 has offered with my router table. Im closer to the coast near eastbourne/brighton if that is more local to you.

    Kity 636

So this is how far I got today. a bit of scrubbing every hour or so has helped to shift 75% of the rusted areas. I have been using the solution in a plastic tub which I placed in the bathtub in case it leaked etc. this afternoon I made the decision to run the bath to heat up the fluid a bit, as...

    Kity 636

The morning (about 12 hours of immersion) It had a lot of sediment sitting on top of it so I gave it a rinse under the shower head and a brush with a kitchen-type nylon brush. It has definitely made a significant difference at this point. There is still some blackened areas of rust. I put it...

    Kity 636

At 1 hour not much difference is noticeable, the fluid is clear, there is maybe some slight darkening of the rust on the top but nothing markedly noticeable. At 2 hours, there is noticeable blackening of the rusty areas and the fluid has a slight orange hue. Time for bed now, I’m looking...

    Kity 636

It has been scrubbed with a wire brush and scotch brite pad so far. Now in goes the thicknesser table into the ‘restore rust remover solution’… Photos with a white envelope for a ‘before’ colour reference. I’ll try and take hourly photos until I go to bed!

Air line and connector advice please

Another vote for the PCL XF fittings. Screwfix were reasonable recently when I got some.

    Kity 636

Thanks for this. I might see if I can send them a paint chip to compare with the stuff they have. The Myford Hammered finish on the website looks fairly similar to my Kity colour. https://www.paragonpaints.co.uk/paragon-hammered-finish-myford-ml10-green-colour-match.html

    Kity 636

If I cant find some paint easily enough then I expect i'll just laquer it like you suggest. I'm not restoring it because I thought it had particular value etc, it's just a project for pleasure!

    Kity 636

I've taken all the covers off and put them in the loft for now, I thought I would see to the covers last! I'm actually wondering if I can get a substitute for the original paint. It seems a shame to touch up the painted parts in something which doesnt match..

    New Year, new Bandsaw!

Don't know if it is of interest but there is a Hammer N4400 on facebook in what looks like very good condition for £1500 (although i'm sure you could negotiate down) Log into Facebook

    Kity 636

Some photo updates of the planer project. The entire machine is dissasembled except for the cutterblock and it's housing. I established that it is rather difficult to dissasemble this assembly and so my plan is to try and restore it as it is. If that doesn't work and I end up needing to replace...

    Mini compressor - Senco 5ltr, 0.5hp

I was in the exact same position as the OP recently. Ended up purchasing a Draper 6L compressor (£95) and the Axminster 24 gauge nailer (actually takes 23 gauge nails as well which are more readily available... £45 in their black friday sales). I have been quite pleased with it and it is great...

Air Nailers Or Electric nail guns?

Cheap enough air nailers are available at tool station and for what you’re trying to do I’d be keen to go down that route. At the end of the day if you get it from toolstation/Screwfix and it turns out to be rubbish they will always take things back...
