    Cleaning rust off thicknesser bed

It doesn't look terrible at all. No pitting etc just light rust. I would probably just hit it with some 4000 grit wet and dry then protect it with something like this (Liberion Lubricating Wax) which will keep it smooth and stop the rust forming. I just restored a kity planer and the...

    Dovetail jig opinions

I have an axminster dovetail jig which I purchased, tried out once on some scrap to see how it worked, and have never used since... It is this Axcaliber Dovetail Jig Link Happy to sell for £50 plus postage if you are interested. No worries if not. Separately - the lumberjack one looks...

Metabo hc260 thickness mode issue, please help

I am not proclaiming to be an expert as I am still fairly new to these machines, however I have just restored a similar ish model and i'll give my 2 pence. It is correct for the feed rollers to be lower than the cutter block & blade (as shown in your picture) - when you pass a piece of wood...

What are these ‘curved washers’ called?

I have restored a kity planer and it needs a fence made for it. The original one in the diagram (missing from my machine) was a piece of bent steel, attached to a 20mm rod. I'm reluctant to copy the original design as it looks quite flimsy, however the 20mm rod bit I will stick with as the...

What are these ‘curved washers’ called?

Perfect - thanks! I did think about filing it flat and that is another option, just coming up with a design for the fence bracket at the moment!

What are these ‘curved washers’ called?

What is the name of (and where would I obtain) washers like number 31 in the diagram attached? They are used to obtain a square profile interface from a metal rod? Thanks!

    Setting Planer Tables

Gauge thing arrived today - I noticed they called it a dial test indicator gauge on the packaging but it is definitely what we referred to earlier as a dial gauge! I was surprised to find that my out feed table is fairly well aligned as it was set by eye (within 0.2mm). Looking forwards to...

    Setting Planer Tables

Just for learning - what is the difference between a dial test indicator and a dial indicator?

    Setting Planer Tables

Sorry - a clock? Is that slang for a dial test indicator? So just take readings at each end of the table against the spindle of the cutter block? Can I take the readings from the block or does it need to be the spindle ends? So I am not sure how I go about adjusting my outfeed table, I have...

    Kity 636

So it is all back together now. I didn't quite manage to document the process step by step as I had hoped but I will throw some photos in here anyway!

    Setting Planer Tables

Didn't use it before strip down - it was in a complete state! Blades are HSS - I read later in your post to set one knife and work off that, then worry about the second one later! That sounds simpler to manage... Useful to know - will try and set it at about the same height - I have been...

    Setting Planer Tables

So I have finally got myself to a position of having rebuilt the KITY636 I have been restoring. I have come to the stage of setting the tables, which I am finding an incredibly fiddly job. Is there any advice or help anyone can give me on this process. It feels like whenever I sort one alignment...

How can I order wood which won't warp?

I am sure that I read one of the replies on this thread mentioning Oakley furniture boards(although I can’t seem to find the comment now). I have seen these crop up a few times and I always wondered what they actually are?

Remote control socket for twin motor camvac

So my extractor has a very standard ‘on/off’ switch. It’s a metal dustbin type extractor. Switch is the same as like a Henry hoover, it’s not no volt release or anything like that. So I leave the switch in the on position, there’s a plug socket it goes into which is hard wired into the ‘slave’...

Remote control socket for twin motor camvac

I use what is effectively one of these Amazon.co.uk It's a master/slave extension lead, which means whenever I use the master socket (my tools), the slave one (the extractor) comes on. It is only rated for 13A overall however. @Spectric and @fleyh - I wonder if I should actually set my system...

How can I order wood which won't warp?

When I didn't have a planer/thicknesser I would take a few boards for whatever I was doing to a local workshop and give them £5 to plane them square for me.

Anyone with a 3D printer in Sussex

Thanks all for your responses, for some reason I can't upload the .STL files here so instead here is a link: https://sendanywhe.re/7L19P5WD One is the planer port, the other is the thicknesser port. They have 100mm outlets but I have a 50mm extraction system at the moment. One day I hope to...

Anyone with a 3D printer in Sussex

I did have a search on facebook as I was hoping to find exactly that, someone local with a printer who was offsetting costs. Sadly I couldn't find anyone nearby! I will keep searching. The parts will need a bed size >250mm which I understand is quite large for the 3D printing world.
