    Choice of workshop vac?

The Bosch and Hilti I experienced, both had some form of automatic cleaning. Sounded very like reverse airstream, probably to do the same job as Siggy proposed. Whatever it was, it worked, without any physical intervention from the operator. Super useful when up a step ladder with a wall tracker...

    Summer's arrived ...

I grew up in a traditionalist, agricultural, very rural area and a fairly rigid adherence to 'received wisdom'. Similar to that which your describe on Cyprus. Mine was the generation that broke out, so maybe there is hope yet with the advent of social media broadening peoples' worlds. Sam

Gah. Seriously unimpressed by non-ecologists of any race. Sam

    Summer's arrived ...

Ta for clarification. Don't like anybody that disrupts ecological balance like that. There just can't be enough eating on a songbird to justify hunting them, surely? Sam

Barsteward Eyties used to trap/shoot so many migrating birds...anybody know if Brussels/Strasbourg managed to put a stop to the "delicacy" trade? Sam

    Choice of workshop vac?

I refer the Right Honourable gentleman to my two posts re the Bosch/Hilti systems. I further refer the Right Honourable Gentleman to my post immediately subsequent to his last one and I claim, not 'The Chiltern Hundreds', but the the discretion to 'agree to disagree'. Signing off, Sam

    Choice of workshop vac?

"relying on the filter blocking up to provide the required filtration efficiency would be considered poor practice. Running a filter with the required efficiency and keeping it clean to maximise flow rate through the system (and thus dust-capturing ability) is a better approach." This is the...

    Choice of workshop vac?

Thank you Siggy, I am grateful for you sharing your knowledge and bringing clarity to bear. I, in no way, wish to initiate, perpetuate or accentuate, any debate; I seek only empirical fact, in the face of which, "debate" is superfluous. Sam

    Operation Musical Chairs

This was mine, two linen spinning machine end frames as legs and a glulam top; had a record 52-and-a-half vice on it too. Instant hernia trying to move it unloaded. Could only bring the glulam and vice with me during the move, never been so sorry to see anything go as I was to lose those two...

Quangsheng No.6 Acceptable Finish Condition On A New Plane

Show me - and everybody else here - the important bits. The sole, preferably with a good quality ruler agin it. The sole/side-you-will-use-for-shooting, with a good square tight against both. What you are depicting so far is cosmetic and in no way contributes to making shavings. All my...

Plunge/track saw and rails - which one?

I'm woodworking 35 years as an amateur, restoring 3 houses as I did so. I bought the Aldi one as a Sheppach clone ( or the other way round?) and I am well pleased with it for both sheet, manufactured board and real, raw timber. Ripping or cross cutting make little difference to it. It is unique...
