Pneumonia? Gnome? Knuckle? Just sayin'...there are lotsa 'silent' letter words out there too, apart from classical spellings... My favourite in spelling/pronounciation dislocation is Jerry Durrell's " Cholmondley St. John"....a.k.a. "Chumly Sinjun" Sam

As an ex-teacher, I (regretably) could cite chapter and verse re spellings and grammar...we used to get the 'proofs' of the school mag in our common room and see who could get to 10 first...usually took less than a cuppa... My especial hate: "criteria" used to describe a single...

    I Bought a Track Saw...

PeteG, as the survivor of an industrial accident that peeled part of my left index finger somewhat agin to a banana...you have my utmost sympathies - and best wishes for a wholesome recovery. I do hope you don't experience 'phantom finger'. Very impressed by your stoicism and 'get on with it'...

    Workshop apron

Coarse leather apron, no pockets. When I roll up my sleeves, I tuck the roll INSIDE the upper sleeve. If you are, or know, a blacksmith, you will know why to both pockets and sleeves. Sam

Agreed Andy. Though, viewing permutations on a theme (tools/jigs/methods of work) sometimes helps having that 'lightbulb' moment, that makes a task easier? Especially for beginners, like Osvaldd seems to be? I'm a bit like you: "K.I.S.S." and don't give in to the Yankee tendency to invent a...

    Donkey's Ear Shooting Board

Hi Steve, you said in your article the plans came from a certain 1960's/70's woodworking magazine, that Bob Wearing and Charles Hayward used to practically run single handed? So, obliquely, you did award credit. I'm on my way north to be DIY-Dad for a few days, but, if you want, I'll scan the...

    Donkey's Ear Shooting Board

Rob, this in haste, called away to Beddinburgh on a domestic emergency! ](*,) The chuteing/shooting board is in "The Resourceful Woodworker" 1991, by Wearing. (Hope to Gawd Batsford don't come after me with a big legal stick for copying those photos...) Steve Maskery :!: built a copy in...

    Christmas Came Early

Apologies, I have mis-remembered. The foot in "The Resourceful Woodworker" by Wearing, was attached to a wooden router body: I hope Batsford won't mind me copying those photos... Its design was then extended to powered routers via threaded rods and a similar foot mounted on them; you can...

AndyT has it for speed and convenience. The offcut can be screwed on via the fence holes or, good old double sided tape! The advantage of the Wearing design is that you can extend the base a long way sideways and this is more forgiving when cutting a long tenon - and, it gives a mechanical...

You Sir, are an official Jammy Barsteward! :D Nice one!! I have a Record 073, a No10, a 778 and a router slightly more patinated (rusty) than yours...so...here's some experience: My Record 074 is a tonne weight. That makes the trimming of tenon shoulders really easy, as once started, the...

    making a planing stop

Gotcha. Don't you just love simple? Too many people create a solution and then try to adapt a problem to it. I'm a firm believer of reducing an idea until only the essential remains. Proper job. Sam, not a Luddite, no, honestly.

    Donkey's Ear Shooting Board

Feel for you. Had an alleged 80mm in 24 hours in Northumberland the day I flew here, preceded by close to that in the 24 hours previous. Can't believe Trump denies Global warming; he must have too many Texas Oil shares.... Adieu.
