    Re: yet more identification help

"Indeed! But there are multiples of everything! Part of our problem" Having cleaned out MY father's garage, I postulate: "Hoarder". Sympathy and understanding. I needed several large glasses of red understanding after my sixth car-load went tip-wise, and we still hadn't dealt with his six...

    Picture hanging

Hi Mark, interesting thread. I was a bit of a heathen by comparison. No1 child had me hang an ornate mirror she'd bought, which was half my body weight... I used rawbolts and 100mm metal strap hooks. Just about felt safe to step back and check it was level. T'was, thank God. Sam

What dust extractor should I buy. + pipework

Axminster Trade AT60E 1HP I've had a second-hand ancestor of this one - c/o Rob Stoakley, aka "Woodbloke" - for about 10 years now. Services my Wadkin AGS 10" saw and my Elektra Beckum 260 planer, no problem at all. It also coped easily with a DeWalt 733 on full chat. It has a cloth bag instead...

    a little knowledge I didn't think I'd ever need ...

Gold medal for swift thinking and two epaulette stars for achieving it from seated. As a First Aider of many years, my experience is that doing it (in drills )when standing up is DIFFICULT. Managing it for real from your chair deserves some serious respect. =D> =D> =D> Sam

Dashing over a painted brick wall

I'm in a pickle akin to yours and I am seriously considering 'sparrow-pecking' mine with the aid of a loosely held baby Kango and a point chisel bit. ( So it can jump and skitter around on the paint and leave irregular pock marks). Paint strippers can be unpredictably ineffective on brick and...

    Record/Stanley Rebate Plane Lever Cap

Ah! Thought you were going the other way...what about grinding down a 4 cap? Take a few mm off each side? If it helps, I'll take some photos for you of the No10 alongside a No4 cap. Sam

What have you in your box??

Sorry Noel, thanks to you too for the Sharpie tip. I have used Dymo printed labels in the past, but they do not stand up to rubbing against other boxes in a car boot or general hurly-burly of a cramped workshop! The choice of silver is a shrewd one, I've been reduced to puce-faced, frenzied...

What have you in your box??

Thanks TFrench and Doug; I did suspect this would be a 'piece of string' query and that framers would be different from general handymen and specialists like kitchen fitters might be different again. There is such a wide band of possibilities for even a weekend warrior that I suspect this is an...

What have you in your box??

Yerr...I used to think that Screwfix et al were simply packing out boxes with all those itsy bitsy small screws. At the time I was doing a lot of heavy duty renovation and 50mm/75mm dominated my horizons. That and the old red and green 'sticks' of rawplug, that you just cut a bit off, stuck it...

What have you in your box??

Thanks so far gents. I am not concerned by what the hardware is carried in, more on the range of screws and fittings carried and why. I have my own ideas, but I am curious to see where others preferences lie. Apologies Doug, mind fart...it comes with age.... Sam

    Record/Stanley Rebate Plane Lever Cap

Meh....maybe 5-7mm gap each side of the No10 cap? I doubt you would get enough pressure at the two ends if you put it into a 4 or (worse) a 5. Sam

What have you in your box??

Professionals? Doug71, Doctor Bob, anybody else who earns their bread by carrying a toolbox through a different door each day: What range of screws, fittings and the like do you pack in your site box? And, why? I am just about to restock and I am swithering over some choices; convince me yea...
