    How does this work?

Thanks John Brown; I had a similar "Doh!!" moment twenty minutes after posting "non-sequitur"...slaps forehead... Sam

    Heated Vests

From mountaineering experience in below freezing most days at altitude: 'use the layer system!': 1. Lifa's or similar next to the skin 2. Lightweight - 200 - fleece (or wool) shirt 3. optional, body warmer/fleece gillet 4. heavier fleece. and now, (roll drums) A HAT! Seriously, if your feet...

    How does this work?

That's it Chas! Sorry I couldn't hunt it down for you, I'd got halfway across the ceiling and was on a quick caffeine break! Novocaine, I like your style. I'm going to show this thread and your post in particular to the singing nonogenarian next door, Eric L. Viss... Sam

Anybody good with ray diagrams and Sketchup to help Chas out? I know the principles, but am wellied into a big painting job, so can't take time to draw, then scan, doodles. Sam

    Benchtop thicknessers

Yup, though I found this method a little inconsistent, possibly because the disc on my handle was worn, and therefore loose and slipped a little(?). Could also have been my clumsiness! Despite that it was a very good method to get to 'inside the ballpark ' measurements, as experience allowed...

    Benchtop thicknessers

I was debating a Byrd head when my woodworking needs changed, and I went for the Beckham, sorry Beckum instead. Good call!! Sam

    No more 2 3/8" blades

My bad Osvaldd. :( Got grumpy dealling with 'auto call back' that patently isn't; took it out on you. Grrrrr....blasted technology. Steamin' Sam

    No more 2 3/8" blades

Nah. I've got both a 5'an'an'alf and a straight 5. Former's greater heft or mass makes for smoother (as in the movement) planing** and far better use on a chuting board. Stick to your guns Chris. Sam ** Edit: same argument pertains for heavyweight shoulder planes like Record 073 (or is it 074?)...

    No more 2 3/8" blades

Ozziwaldo, Chris T(ribe) is a tutor, running courses, more than "one fella". Then you incorporate the cack-handed, notching or blunting blades as they acquire prowess...go figure. Sam

    Benchtop thicknessers

I'd fight its corner by saying 'that is no bad thing, considering the masses of some of the baulks I've put through it'. My Douglas Fir benchtop went through as separate 8" x 4" x 7' laminated pieces, each being lightly planed on the two 8" faces as finishing after glue-up. Despite having...

Wadkin AGS 10 Affairs and Spares

Diving into a motor to find the star point is easier than you think. I did it, never having had instruction in Lecky, just YouTube.... This leaves you confortably on 240V, as per domestic wiring, and a cheaper box of electronics to fit and configure. Just sayin'. Sam

    Permissive Pigeons

Could it be this years late squabs (2nd brood) still begging food from mum? Sam

Thank you Droogs and Andy. I have walked past this locale a few times without realising its significance. Sam.
