Is this the beginning of senility?

Chris, we really need to meet, to chew the celluloid fat, preferably over a good, healthy, rough, red ...or two. I accept your counter, and propose instead: "Blade Runner, the Director's cut", "A room with a view", "The thin Red Line" or, if you are feeling whimsical, "The Guard". You can blame...

    Slate oil

Seconded. I did my new hearth with three coats in 24 hours, near enough a year ago today; it is still shiney, despite the attentions of a shaggy lurcher betimes. Wipes clean with a damp cloth, then buffs dry to a lovely sheen. Sam

Phil, NOW I'm starting to worry about you. See my tag line? "Still frisky"??? Hmmm?? Sam

    Prepping old walls for paint

IME, the latter. The old stuff acts as wall size. Sugar soap is a much over-rated reconmendation anyway, but removing the old paste residue by other means might leave a horribly porous wall and thereby a patchy paint uptake, necessitating more coats. Sam

Is this the beginning of senility?

Well Steve, making a statement like that really helps to find out WHO your proper friends are... :-" I say this, having been a teacher in a boys' school for 37 years and in the last year, I developed a 'complete blind spot' regarding pulling up my trouser zip...Thank God I had a wonderfully...

    Wadkin AGS 10 Rise/Fall Worm

First thought: Scott and Sargeant, but you will have to remortgage your front teeth to pay them. Better, there used to be a metal lathe/mill crowd in Kent, D and G or something like that they called themselves. They 'broke' machines as well and were useful, provided they had a saw like yours at...

Multico 12 speed pillar drill adjusting rack

Ta Mock. I was in touch with Clarke's customer service by email before and they actually sent a letter (remember them?) back, quoting costs and naming an individual within the service dept to liase with...can I find that letter? Bulkwarks!! Sam

Multico 12 speed pillar drill adjusting rack

Me too Bob. Mine came out of our school D&T workshop, where some ham-fisted North Down neanderthal had "broke it". I converted it to single phase, but never thought to check the gearing....Gawd, that headstock weighs as much as Blo(w)jo(b)'s ego...and mine is the floor model...mounted on a...

Multico 12 speed pillar drill adjusting rack

That's what I mean by a 'loose fit'. The 8mm boss fits perfectly in the hole, but there is a fair bit of 'play' in the meshing of the gears? That may be normal, I am no engineer. H.T.H. Sam
