Roger, where is your medic getting 20% from please? The WHO were quoting 2% not long ago; has your medic indicated an increased mutation rate in the virus, leading to its greater potency? Sam

Whiskeywill, that is a VERY sweeping statement, not true of viruses in general. As regards Corovid 19, I would like to see specific medical or scientific reference to which surfaces and in what circumstances it can survive. So far, the biomedical information suggests 'sustained close...

    En-suite - sequence of work/questions

What Mike said re drain, floor and mortar bedding. I also had a product recommended to me by a plumber mate, who has installed many ensuites. It is a piece of self-adhesive tape, rather like 4mm thick inner tube, about 70mm wide, that wraps around the shower tray, vertically, around its...

    Words you just can't pronounce.

Trev, I asked Da Boss ( Irish to Leaving Cert) an'she said " it's all in the faddagh an' the blahh " .... :-? At least, I think that's what she said... Sam

    Words you just can't pronounce.

You lot should try gaelic...and ulster scots...just to get things rolling: Ahoghill = Ah..hochhh..ill Ceilidh = Kay..lee Faughan = Focchh..ann (not what you thought!) Now, try finding the correct spelling of the Irish girls' names, here done phonetically: 'Keeva', 'Neeve'. Yup, wet Saturday...

Resin driveway any one got one?

Beg to slightly differ RogerS. I agree that open drains are THE answer, but are not always practical. My experience includes a four-rugby-pitch space, where one corner was low, and so wet the water buffalo migration route passed through it. Sand-slitting every summer for five years proved...

The Queen...just remind me how we pronounce the name of the stone inside her throne in the House of over-priveleged-hereditary-landgrabbers when Lizzie R. got coronated? :-" Sam

Resin driveway any one got one?

Roger, I agree re the biblical rain we're having presently. What I have seen, back 'home' in Bellschaft, where heavy impervious clay underlay skimpy (think 2") topsoil, we regularly used 'field drains' across driveways and soakaways of 4"-6" stones, protected by membrane, before topping. The...

" Sorry Phil! :D I was down your way last summer and the young lass serving us at a tourist trap pronounced it that way, but her other posy airs and graces led me to believe she was a refugee from finishing school slumming it for the summer, not that it were local patois. Oops. :( Sam

"Skoon" the wee village in Scotland. "Skonn" like MikeG said, wot yer all wittering about. "Skoan" to rhyme with "stone" if you are from Sloan Square, W.C.1. Now, griddle cooked or oven?? THAT is the real question after buttermilk. P.S. anybody else call really thick batter, slow cook...

Resin driveway any one got one?

Geoff, the stuff I've seen used is like a shallow milk crate that you fill and roller flat, then seed. Units link together on all four sides. You can get a big brother product called summat like 'landscape matting' that is used on cuttings etc to stabilise 'new' soil on steeply sloping sides...

Resin driveway any one got one?

Ecogrid or equivalent does work. Fairly straightforward to install, may need some digging and/or levelling depending on soil. Rocks, big stones, gravel concentrations can make it bumpy. Be prepared for a "grunt" of a day laying and then a second, levelling. Better to remove a soil layer...

The Ups and Downs ...mainly Downs..of selling a flat.

Austin Mitchell was right. Shame his bill did not get through. Would have simplified things and removed the solicitors altogether. Sam

The Ups and Downs ...mainly Downs..of selling a flat.

I wore a suit most days of my working life. I never sold anything, nor mis-interpreted the law. It was expected, indeed, rigorously enforced, by my immediate superiors for the first two decades of my career. Thanks T.N. Sam

"I only sharpen to what's needed for the task"

David, I fully "get' your points. I would add that, as wood is such a hetergeneous ( Down,Jacob!!) material, even within a species, one might even argue against the validity of applying statistical rigour to testing it. The metal of blade x or y is a different matter, as any one batch (pour) of...
