    Newbie in Ireland!

Hi Ken and "'Bout ye?". I hail originally from Limavady, then served 37 years at the chalk face in Campbell College Belfast. I am now a refugee in a strange country (Northumberland) , but I still have relatives in the Roe Valley. This is a great wee forum, full of characters and some of them...

    Clear instructions from China

My old Latin master recounted this to me many years ago. Downtown Kowloon, taking in the sights. Sign on the wall of a building: "Ground floor, English teached here" "First floor, better English teached upstairs" :? Sam

The importance of being able to see what you are doing...

I know Chris! Believe me, as a ex-second row forward, I know!! Sam

The importance of being able to see what you are doing...

Talking of which (bellies) "who needs a six-pack when you can have a keg?"...(!) Quotation from a redneck logger I caught while channel-hopping... :D Sam

The importance of being able to see what you are doing...

Steve, whatever else you do, PROMISE ME you will think long and carefully, regarding what implement you use, before you trim your nose hair? 8) Sam

    Am I alone?

Berwick for us Bob. We can now get slots about 7-10 days in advance in both Tesco and Morrisons. We also have a neighbour and No1 son to get us fruit and milk, so we are well off. We play the freezer routine as alluded to above, for bread. Thank you for the offer for trout, but as I am the only...

    Am I alone?

and Yup. Defanintootly. Out here in the northern sticks, size 10 difference to what others dahn sarf (in populous areas) have reported. Its a conspiracy I tell you!! Have not yet resorted to nobbling pigeons and eating them raw, but certainly thought about it as an option... 8) Sam

    Am I alone?

I have commented elsewhere (WH2) about my seven week battle with NHS and the supermarkets to get a 95-year-old living alone, a chemo patient with no immune system and an 86-year-old with C.O.P.D. living alone, onto the "vulnerable" list. Apparently, the C.O.P.D. patient "isn't sick enough"...

    Am I alone?

Yup. Morrisons and Tesco's; quality of fresh fruit can be variable to say the least. "Substitutions" are another area where I raise an eyebrow...we have got canny to this and now 'disallow' substitutions. Sam

    Women. Who needs 'em...

    Honing Guide

Good evening David. I know you are the master of brevity as well as an infrequent poster, but...could you please expand on why "not blue"? Just curious, Sam.

    Where I've been

Nice to see you back posting Graham. I echo the sentiments above; I am shocked by your news and sympathise with your steroids catch-22 scenario, SWMBO has that conundrum too. An old saying: "when one door closes, another opens", so I hope you can progress the model building or summat similar...

Very generous present ( not woodwork )

My old Raleigh Classic tourer has had a Brooks (B17?) saddle on it for 40 years. Does need the odd soak in neatsfoot, especially after hot weather. 531 double-butted tubes, forks and (I think) back stays. 72° parallel frame. Lovely comfy ride, but a heavy tortoise compared to my son's 'castoff'...

    Hancock's Half Hour

David, at the risk of being super-cynical ("moi??") can you extrapolate from your comments and consider a less-than-ethical superpower, not far from your western borders, who WOULD 'accidentally' trial any given promising vaccine (on dissidents, say?)... If successful, where would that put them...

    Hancock's Half Hour

I agree with wornthumbs; the talking -down-to is galling and sends out the wrong signals: humility, not hubris please. Tony Handcock would, I am certain, have a low opinion of us reheating his working title as a satire on Matt Handj0b's unimaginative, criminally-inexactitude-ridden daily...

"I only sharpen to what's needed for the task"

No Mucker, I found your information useful; made me pause and consider. No joke. Sam
