A new Beaver from across the pond

Shame. I wonder if the side entrance is now completely stuffed too?

A new Beaver from across the pond

Give (Lower) Cove cave a wave for me next time you pass it. Crackin' half hour's nonsense on the way to the top of Lamaghan. Or, better still, the boiler plates ascending from Wee Binnion to the crags of Binnion proper, finishing with that shoughy chinney over-looking Ben Crom.

A new Beaver from across the pond

" 'Bout ye!" Hugo, from a fellow Norn Iron outdoorsman, now exiled in Northumberland. I miss the webbed feet of Co. Fermanagh and 'ploutering about' in the Mournes and Sperrins. Your website is interesting, nice carvings.

    What are these?

They are burette clamps. Designed to hold the glass tube vertical, and parallel to the wooden upstand ( misding from the pictures). You could make your own, by glueing a 25mm dowel into a wooden base.

    Shoulder plane.

Oops. I mis-quoted D.C.; embarrassed apologies David, mea culpa. 😖 "David Charlesworth's Furniture-making Techniques, Vol II, page 69,: "Blade can be pressed flush with the body using a set square stock on the working side" The bold (emphases) are mine, the words original D.C.; clearly, the...

    Shoulder plane.

Wot Argus sed. There is a little extra "wheeze" perpetrated by The Venerable Charlesworth, about setting the blade a gnat's todger clear of the body to effect clean cutting. Been a while since I had occasion to read it, will look it up for you after work today.

    Shoulder plane.

STOP!! That is a Preston plane. E.P. = Edward (I think) Preston. Collectors (haugh, tho!!) just lurve "patina" - rust and grubbiness to you and me. As she stands, this excellent lil' number is about £90-120. A LIGHT pass over with a soft brass brush to get rid of the dustier rust, followed by a...

And they think the beaches are packed out

The "July Fortnight" is still alive and well in N.I.; starts 11th July, or any day previous to that to accommodate weekends. "The Twelfth" is of course the colourful and noisy reiteration of affection for William of Orange.

    Retirement

Bob, I put it to you, a lot of this talk of spreadsheets, rental properties, annuities is superfluous. None of that considers or puts a weighting on health and wellbeing. I retired at mid-62, having put in my 40 years, plus 4 at uni (combined degree). What immediately preceded it - in terms of...

    casting

Chris, WHAT in Your Diety's name are you on? For full-tilt, surreal, abstraction, your last post takes some beating! Reduce the strength, my friend! Or, preferably, switch to something less powerful, like benzedrine.... Edit: laughs are on me. Just copped on Chris's pun...I am.off to have a...

    B&Q pine stripwood

Buy. Take home. Remove plastic wrapping. Turn your back on it....sproing! Pretzel. Planes same as weetabix 'cos of 'grain of all nations'. Working(?!) with it only fractionally more pleasurable than catching the wedding department in your trouser zip.

    Sneaky Amazon

Yup. I had to do same as Phil.

Early onset Parkinson's disease and woodworking

Parkinson's drugs for tremor control are sensitive to dosage (obviously!) but also timing. Your pupil may find she can adjust her time of swallowing her pills to coincide with class time later?

    car boot find

Musicman (Keith?), you CAN use router cutters in your Arcoy, but you need long shanked ones AND a modified bushing to fit in the 'comb'. There is an article somewhere in www-land showing Beano-style pictures of the conversion details.
