    Thanks. That makes sense.

Internet Archive - useful resource for woodworking books

Rob, I haven't donated, but I am interested. In a previous 'edition' of this Google-based service, it was "turned off for your region". You had no bother getting a clean download? Secondly, did you notice if the credit card security icons were in place?

What are your woodworking goals for 2024?

I insulated and boarded out, then painted, my 16'x8' garage sometime earlier this year. I then ran basic lighting...family crises later, I'm planning to: A) Install a 13A ring to about 14 sockets ("Naff off!" You ring nay-sayers!). B) Install a dedicated 16A radial in 4mmsq CABLE to my AGS10...

    Merry xmas to all

Thank you to all the major contributors who have kept us all entertained and stimulated ( in a good way!) throughout the year; may everybody have a "Kewl Kristmas" as my daughter put it.

Workbench Electrics - How would this be achieved?

"It's the terminology, Sam." Totally, Roger. My point above was that I had transposed requirements for cable onto flex. The 13A plug stuff was a complete surprise.

    Xmas sales.

What price your new wooden spoon, you naughty man? You should treat Cesspool tules with the respect they deserve....😁

Workbench Electrics - How would this be achieved?

Thank you Sideways, most informative. Colour me stunned...all those years of rhyming off "2.5 for power, 1.5 for lights" as I rewired, yada, yada...I think I may have transferred expectations for cables to those for flex, when in fact, flex regulations are more ...flexible? Mind you, your...

    anyone seen one of these?

Jesus, Mary and the Wee Donkey...the lobotomies are coming out in daylight now! That is just SO wrong!!! Reference 'finger-nail trimming' post elsewhere. This pointless, mis-begotten H&S nightmare is just utterly mad!

Workbench Electrics - How would this be achieved?

Sideways, I normally bow to your superior electrical knowledge, unquestioningly. But this (paraphrased) comment had my eyebrows cuddling up to the two remaining patches of hair I have just above my forehead. 1. I regularly use 1500W-2500W 'hand' power tools: to wit, a circular saw and a big...

    ***** builders

My two nephews, working on their own, can "dry wall" a typical semi with metal laths and then plasterboard in one day. Their plasterer(?) follows them. This seems to be the industry expectation; they do converted mills as well as new estates, and have between 200 and 600 'units' per contract...

I have just boughta faily clean ML8

Well done Boy wonder! J.B and Rodders are charging Monopoly prices for old Waddy, Multico, etc parts. 'Bout time they were called out for rampant profiteering, capitalising on the desperate or novices, I reckon.

    Cheap lathe

This looks like an Armadeal photo, filched from one of their ads. Real price? About £1000. And they say £39? Data miner to catch your credit card details. Run. Run fast.

    Are these any good?

7 lathes? For some obscure reason, a memory pops up of Rick Wakeman in concert, surrounded by three stacks of keyboards, playing differing ones as the songs progress...wonder if Blister does his turning like that?

    Myford Ml8 Bandsaw

Steve, it's a cobbled-together pain to fit and a bit wobbly in use. I had one and, when fitted (time-consumptve and awkward) it impeded lathe use. Unless you have time on your hands, or are challenged for space, I'd recommend you get a small, separate bandsaw. Something like an Imp or Burgess.

    Computer says no ...

Totally, utterly, unvaryingly agree Mr Pascoe, Sir. I won't break down the reasons why, because that would be construed as political comment. The sad fact is, the N.H.S. is, by-and-large, an organisation staffed clinically by competent, caring and dedicated individuals, beset, impeded and...

    Computer says no ...

Sorry, sweeping generalism to make the post shorter. Specifically: longer waiting times (with particular impact on cancer patients); failure to sufficiently attract both medics and nursing staff and subsequently, to retain them. This then 'dominoes' into longer admission waits, from A&E to...

    Computer says no ...

A point well made, Blackswanwood, and I can fully see the necessity. That said, as the young lady in question is a family member, I can say that her job is more prosaic than the dire exremis you refer to; in fact, I get the distinct impression that she is one of a body of such individuals...

    Computer says no ...

Sideways, I must concur with Phil, having heard my son, now working 'at the sharp end' in emergency medicine, tell me about the pressures and practices of the N.H.S. The organisation is on its knees, but - for example - a hospital (I won't name it) thinks it is good practice to pay a P.R. salary...
