    Makita 18v batteries

In my case, makita's original battery (NiCd) didn't have any BMS (Battery Management System) whatsoever, but lidl x20v system batteries do have integrated BMS in the battery itself, so that protects you from any over-charging and over-discharging. So, any older, especially NiCd generation tool...

    Makita 18v batteries

My take on no batteries for tools. Good old makita batteries died (NiCd). Genuine batteries cost another drill, so i made an adapter to use Parkside tool x20v batteries. Cheap as chips if you already have a 3d printer :D No beauty here, pure functionality. Drill served me another ~3 years, all...

    Fixing mirror in a frame

80W CO2 laser cutter/engraver. Engraving all sorts - glass, granite, acrylic, wood, mdf. Cutting mostly ply/wood/acrylic/mdf, cant cut glass/minerals/metals. Most mirror backing mdf usually pretty close to the frame, bending them up doesnt leave enough of a gap to pull it out. Plus yanking...

    Fixing mirror in a frame

I've been doing mirror engraving lately. Buy used cheap framed mirror, take out pins and mdf backing, laser engrave back, paint, knock pins back in, done. But latest mirror i got uses wire staples instead of flat sheet metal pointy pins - if i pull them i wont be able to put them back in. Looked...

    Wire inlay first attempt.

Well, this is bull hit. Did i hear someone say "don't lean on a belt sander, eejit" ? Meh, fixable...

    Wire inlay first attempt.

Progress report. Fiddly bits done, all of the number insides are done. One ring perimeter on the inside missing, but that one is easy'ish. Picked up on some shortcuts, like using slotted head bolt as a guided hammer. Outer perimeter of the number went in in like 60 seconds using bolt head to...

    Wire inlay first attempt.

Ah sorry, its copper. just plain multistrand cable split. single strand was 1.6mm diameter. My friend has a rolling mill, so made a flat ribbon out of that wire.

    Wire inlay first attempt.

Well, always wanted to try. Got 1,6mm diameter wire squished in rolling mill, resulting in 2.3x0,8mm ribbon. Annealed with a lighter (that took awhile). Drawn out design in coreldraw, lasered the design out in 100x100mm chunk of oak. Gaps/stabs are 0.7mm wide and some 1.5-2mm deep. Now, after...

    Is anyone using cnc

Its like the half-joke on pricing work (cheap/quick/fast, pick 2) but paraphrased: Big, Rigid, Fast... Big and rigid will be slow Big and fast will be floppy Rigid and fast will be small Applies to cnc, 3d printers and laser cutters. Got a big(for home use) and floppy laser cutter. Making it...

    Training apprentices

Well, oof, that hurt :D Thats me to a T. I'd kill to become an apprentice now, and being an IT guy for most of my working life is not helping. And yeah, sticking IT woodworking wannabees onto cnc of some sort would work wonders, me thinks. Especially those that had SOME similar experience. I'm...

What have you been up to?

Slate/glass/granite/marble/stone off the road - all doable. Engraving, not cutting. Some super soft stones can be depth engraved, but i havent tried any.

What have you been up to?

Today running out my blank coaster stock on my laser. Need to get a guilliotine and cut more.

Nicely beveled slate coaster break ?

No need, i'm good. Found some examples online, will make my own with couple of iron angles and a flat bar. I'll share pics when done.

    Tensegrity table

Still need to redesign. Need to figure out some sort of tensioning mechanism, as fiddling with knots is not ideal. Plus, the nylon string over time stretches. At the moment whole thing hangs only on 3 points, instead of 4 or 5 as is usual. This was just a "proof of concept" thing i laser cut.

Nicely beveled slate coaster break ?

My assumption (about slaters guilliotine) was wrong. It has support on both sides of the blade. I was thinking your usuall guilliotine with one edge unsupported. Upon closer inspection of slaters guilliotine, i see blade moving in between two supporting/shearing edges. Which makes sense.

Nicely beveled slate coaster break ?

Ah, so thats the term - riven edge. What i want is a steep edge, not what i can produce by hand, which is usually very shallow, unappealing sort of affair. I've tried a good number of times and nothing good comes out of me hacking at the slate. I could buy them coasters but its an unneccessary...

    For the gamers among us

Yup, pretty much. Buuuut, i lean more towards dungeon crawlers/rpg's(none of the mmorpg stuff though), so... Someone has to do a vid like this about that.

Nicely beveled slate coaster break ?

Been looking at options to cut slate coasters myself as i have abundance of material. However, i couldn't find anything beyond traditional slaters knife, angle grinder and tile saw mehods that would produce presentable edge to coasters. I've tried hand cutting with slaters knife - chips in way...
