    Shooting board doesn’t work properly.

Well there’s your other problem, if your blade was cutting a 32nd of an inch that’s why it’s stopping when it hit the end grain, too much blade projecting. Actually I could see it on the first photo when I looked again, behind the plane there is a thin whitish line. Ian

    Shooting board doesn’t work properly.

If you mean the piece of wood that the shaped side of the plane runs/ rubs on why would it be rebated? Ian

Just what on earth is this all about.

Thank you HJ, a very succinct answer, shan’t fall for that again! Ian

Finish for coasters and pot stands

Afraid I can’t see anything standing up to a pan straight from the hob being put onto it, you could perhaps inlay some stainless rods that would stand proud? Ian

    What wood again

Looks to be a little dark and too opened grained for either of those two, recognise it but can’t place it, at first I thought American Ash but probably not. Ian

Anyone want to do a weight loss challenge?

Maybe not, but there is a recent study from Germany that pretty conclusively shows low vitamin D with a very bad outcome from Covid.

Anyone want to do a weight loss challenge?

Magnesium is very good for leg and foot cramps as well, the sort that’s easy for the body to use is a relatively new one from the MIT clever people in the states. MagnesiumLthreonate Ian

    Shooting board doesn’t work properly.

Not so difficult Jacob, I just don’t think he’s got his plane set fine enough, personally I never use a shooting board I just stand it in the vice, it’s pretty rare to get breakout, if it’s being difficult I come at it from both ends and then take the middle off, but it must be sharp and set...

    Which Dehumidifier?

Hi Doug, best of luck with your mother, not the easiest things to try and control in my experience. lol Just checked this is the one I have, the first one lasted probably eight years so this is the second one, Eco-air DD/S black edition, God knows why cause it’s all white, up to 7 L per day on...

    Heating a workshop

Fairly sure that’s the same one I have, I run it in a large wardrobe type construction (I call it my kiln) to reduce the moisture in firewood it’s staggering the amount of water that comes out, and as you may know it don’t burn!

Anyone made a scissor lift table?

Do you have a compressor? You could go down the route of inflatable bags within a framework, the Fire Brigade use them to lift lorries that have gone over. Just an idea. Ian

    Heating a workshop

It’s not the fault of the oil filled radiator, my well insulated 45‘ x 15‘ is heated very nicely with one, it’s the lack of insulation, it just can’t keep up with how fast the heat is escaping through the walls and roof. Ian

    Energy may go even higher

Almost, a big, big time Builder friend of mine did actually say 50 years! He died recently I would’ve loved to have asked him about fitting heat pumps to new houses. He was a Yorkshireman and didn’t take prisoners, he once asked very high up the ladder what carbon neutral was when building...

Just what on earth is this all about.

These are fairly regularly above the useful stuff on this site, I opened something like this once and entered a maze of rabbit holes that never seemed to end so I shan’t do it again, this one appears to advocate sticking a nail in a socket – well I suppose it would slash your power bills, it...

    Push sticks again.......

You could of course keep the fence where it was and then fasten a short wooden fence to it. Ian

    The Grammar Thread

And just in case anybody doesn’t know. I’m (fairly sure) it means to be blown up by your own pipe bomb. They were laid against doorways quite often. Ian
