    plane blade upgrade

Hi D_W, can I ask a daft question about the Autosol? How do you apply it? Do you just rub it on with a cloth or do you put it on a flat surface and then polish the blade on the surface? Thanks, Mark

Advice on No 80 Scraper Plane

Thanks for the advice. I have set the blade height in the way described by putting it in when on a flat surface. I therefore wonder if I put much of a burr on it when burnishing it. It is not something I have done before. Do I just use a file to take a bit of the burr off? Thanks Mark

Advice on No 80 Scraper Plane

Thank you both for your advice. As it is the first time using it in anger I am just trying to learn how to get it to work best. If the chattering is caused by it taking too big a bite, I will have a play with reducing that. The screw is not very tight at all, so I wonder if I have not got the...

Advice on No 80 Scraper Plane

I recently acquired an old Record 80 Scraper Plane. I have followed the advice on Paul Sellers Youtube about how to sharpen the blade. Sometimes when I use it, it works really nicely taking off very fine shavings, but some times it judders and starts leaving lines on the surface of the wood...

Sip 01446 12" Table saw details, repairs and review

Hi Darren, This is the fence I built from the plans. I have not done much metal work, but with the help of a friend with who could weld, my Aldi pillar drill and a fine cutting disk on my grinder I managed to make a very solid and accurate fence. I bought all the bits from eBay. If I recall...

Sip 01446 12" Table saw details, repairs and review

Siggy_7 have you built one? I have one for my table saw which is good. A friend helped with the welding. It’s not absolutely to the design but it is very solid and square. I would also recommend the design. If you are going to build one I could suggest some tweaks.

Using a Hole Saw the right way

Whilst it is by no means the best Pilar drill, I picked one up at Aldi a few years ago for £60, which has been fantastic and gets lots of use. You can set it for slow speed with lots of torque which is useful for large holes or drilling really hard materials.

Kitchen worktop clamps - I feel that I'm missing something?

I joined some bits of oak work top in a similar way to make a desk top for my daughter longer. I used a template and cut just deep enough so the bolts didn’t stick out the bottom. I used my router to cut some biscuit slots so the surfaces lined up nicely. It seems to be perfectly sold like that.

    Record 071 fence screws

The bolts arrived today and fit perfectly. I probably ought to shorten them a bit. If anyone else is short of some let me know as I have more than I need.

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

I recently PM’d Darren and Phil about the same question as I am going to put up some more lights in my garage. Following their help I have just received these: Look at this on eBay 6x48W LED Panel Light Recessed Celing (Cool White 6500 K) 600 x 600 x 10mm And Look at this on eBay Surface Mount...

    Record 071 fence screws

I managed to order a bag of 10 3/16” bolts from EBay. I think they might need shortening a bit, but they were a much more reasonable price. If anyone else needs some spares I will have more than I need so let me know. Thanks for everyone’s help. Mark

Thanks for the replies. I will see if I can get something suitable on EBay. Best wishes, Mark

    Record 071 fence screws

I recently bought a second hand Record 071 router plane. I don’t think the bolts for the fence are original and don’t fit particularly well. Does anyone know the thread size and length of bolts used? Equally if anyone knows a good place to get some that would be great. I did see a closed EBay...
