    Wet grinder rollers

Thanks John, That looks like the sort of thing I could make. The bit it does not really highlight is the need for the castor plate to hinge from horizontal to an angle above that. I will need to work out how to go from the horizontal metal plate to a vertical lever without fowling the operation...

    Wet grinder rollers

Hi Triton, The idea of wheels on a board underneath was along the lines I was thinking, but I wasn’t sure how I would stop it moving when using it. The normal locking castors I have come across are quite large in proportion to the machine. The idea of a TV arm is not one I had thought of. It...

    Wet grinder rollers

Hi Tris, Sorry I didn’t explain myself well. I seem to have filled up most of the space in the garage! The reason for the cupboard is as really so I could store more things above the grinder and keep grot off it when not in use. I had thought about drawer runners, but I would need them to be...

    Wet grinder rollers

Hi Triton, Thanks for sharing. I have the grinder already. I am looking for a way of putting rollers on it so I can move it easily along my workbench when needed. Thanks Mark

    Wet grinder rollers

Hi Tris, That is an interesting idea, unfortunately the space under the workbench is full already. It was because of that I was thinking about how I could move it along the workbench without pulling my back with an awkward lift in the process. Thanks Mark

    Wet grinder rollers

I have a wet grinder like this: It takes up quite a lot of space on my workbench, so I would like to be able to tuck it away in a corner when not in use. In fact I am thinking about making a small cupboard to put it in. However it is quite an awkward lift for this lump from the corner of the...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Just put a new handle on a dovetail saw I bought on the forum. I then constructed some storage for the saws.

    Cheap spray mount

When I am doing stuff on the scroll saw I put masking tape on it then spray mount the template to the masking tape. Doesn’t matter what the spray mount is like then.

    Sold MacAllister 1/2" Router

I have just upgraded to a new router, but this one is still going strong and perfectly useable in a router table. Only thing I can't find for it is the original spanner, but I just tend to use an adjustable one. Collection is from Bath (BA2).

    Show us yer .... Bird-feeders

I made this from some Iroko and copper pipes. The upright is 22mm and the horizontals are 15mm. I then fitted end caps with threaded bar and some clips from eBay.

    I was wondering that too.

    Ear defenders

If you are looking for good basic hearing protection then I also use Peltor III ear defenders. I prefer them over plugs as they are quicker and easier to get on and off. If you are after going high tech whilst still providing the best manual hearing protection then I can recommend the 3m Comtac...

how to build a shooting board and what plane to use?

Well now I am in a quandary! I built my first shooting board this year and had limited success in getting good shavings with my planes. I was building up to the idea of investing in a veritas shooting plane when they come back in stock in the UK. However after Custard’s post I wonder whether...

Just finished making a reindeer on the bandsaw from a bit of oak I got on Freecycle. Not an original idea, but quite pleased how it tuned out,

Finish on tools after restoration ?

I am fortunate that my planes don’t seem to rust in the garage, but my Record No7 was squeaking a bit when using it today. My wife had just given me a tin of bees wax polish that she had made as she is the beekeeper in the family. I put a bit on the sole of the plane and it was like a different...

Advice on No 80 Scraper Plane

Hi Ian, Good question. I guess I was partly trying to use it as it was new tool for me. I have a very nice old record no 4, but I am not sure I have managed to get any camber on the blade so was concerned that I could end up with tramlines on the surface. I had just routed out the word "Seeds"...

Advice on No 80 Scraper Plane

Thanks for all the advice. I looked at the plate that holds the blade in place and decided it was slightly curved, so not supporting the middle of the blade. I tried turning it round to see if that fixed it, but it didn’t. I am sorry Ian I had not seen your message when I had a go. I filed off...
