    Plane restoration

Thanks for that. I've had a little play around with them tonight. The 2 on the left work perfectly. The one on the right a little rough. I've enjoyed researching the larger ones, age , number ect. I've been using a link provided earlier in the thread. Seems a bit easier with the bigger...

    Plane restoration

Had a visit of a really nice fella today. Mentioned the other day I was getting into woodworking and he popped round this aft while I was a work and dropped off some planes and a chisel to add to my growing collection. I also picked up a brace. It was mentioned in one of my other posts to add...

    Simple finish.

Hi. Thanks for advise. Do you mean spray with water and sand while wet. Or wait for it to dry before sanding again.

    Simple finish.

Hi. I've been practicing with hand tools only so I made a stool using cheap studwork wood from Wickes. I've probably sanded to much. I did 120 then 240. Only by hand. But I can see it's very dusty. I enjoy making but hate finishing . I always ruin my hard work and turn everything orange. All...

    Brace and bit

Hay. Might be a stupid question, but will these hexshank bits fit in an old brace. I need to drill some 25mm holes in a stool I'm making. i got a bit of Amazon, it felt blunt out of the box , I had a go on a 2x4 with my DeWalt, it either split wood down middle. Flew through and smashed back...

    Plane restoration

Hi all. Did another plane today a friend had sat in his garage. Didn't get it as clean as the last one but it's flat and sharp. Sharpened it myself with the honing guide kinverkid kindly sent me. Thanks again. I need more practice sharpening its not as easy as the vids make it look. 😂.. but I...

    Budget power tools.

Hay everyone. My saw arrived yesterday. I've built a little table for it. Put some levelling feet on as my garage is a bit wonky. I think it all looks pretty good. Might have to rethink it as it's heavy so could do with some wheels. Just don't know how to go about leveling and casters...

    Budget power tools.

Also. I ordered the Rutlands. Hopefully it'll be ok. Anyone using one. Few reviews I could find were positive. Appreciate everyone advise. Hopefully I'll get set up and making a few projects. And try not to annoy the neighbours to much with all the noise. 😁...

    Budget power tools.

Thanks. That's where I've been looking. Would you say this one is ok. Options were 6 or 4tpi. I won't be using it for ripping though anything thick.

    Budget power tools.

I got it up yesterday. It's ok. Needs a bit of fettling and a new blade. Doubt it would cut cheese at the moment. I'm going to strip it down over next few days , give it a clean up while I wait for a blade to arrive. Hopefully nothing is broken as I don't think spares are available. Am I...

    Budget power tools.

Hi. I've been looking though all the available table saws in my budget. I don't need or can afford high end. From what I can see from the pics at least they all look like the same saw. In the £120 - £200 price range , Parkside , titan, ainhell, parker, lumber jack , evolution. Are they all...

    Plane restoration

Thanks for sticking the neck out. It's appreciated 😁. I've now ordered a sharpening stone and a strop ( again 😂 ) Figured it was worth a punt for £20. I'll definitely get a honing guide and have a look into your suggestions. I'll link what I got if any one interested. Thanks again. KOTAI...

I'll have a look through some sharpening threads. See if anyone mentions if the cheaper stones are of any use.

    Plane restoration

Well she works great. I never knew old crusty pallet wood could look so clean. I even managed to get it square. I had a local guy sharpen it for my. £3 well spent. I cancelled my sharpening tools while I do a bit more research. I saw some sketchy reviews on the cheap ones off Amazon.

    Plane restoration

Thanks for everyone's advise. I did a light clean up. I watch the vid Phil posted. Not quite to his standard but it'll do for my needs. It was already flat so didn't need much. I Doubt it was ever used. You could ride bare *** to London on it though so I've ordered a sharpening kit . I'll watch...

    Plane restoration

Hi. I had a post recently where requiring some more hand tools was suggested. I've been looking at planes. I remembered I had an old one knocking about in my dads shed. It must of been there over 30 years. God knows when he got it. It was probably his dad's. Anyway. Would you mind having a...

    Beginner tools / timber advise

Thank you for your replies. It's very helpful and appreciated. I have been swaying towards the record as from what I worked out has a deeper max cut of 125mm. I was thinking for now, 100mm would be the max I would be working with. Maybe 4 x 4s . I'm not sure what blades come with any of them...

    Beginner tools / timber advise

Thanks for the advise everyone. I've decided along with some hand tools I'll get a bandsaw. I've watched some vids and I will get alot of use out of one. Plus it won't take up much room. I was a bit confused with sizes at first as couldn't work out what the 9" or 10" was referring too...
