    Sanders

Thanks for the replies,. It's helped make the decision. I was always going corded until I saw the Ryobi offer , which turned my head, due to the freebie. 😁. I only make small projects. Coasters, boxes ect. So it won't be getting any prolonged use. And I'll still probably finish by hand...

    Sanders

Hi all. Up to now I've done all my sanding by hand. So I'm looking at getting a ROS of Santa. My preference was the corded DeWalt. But I've seen that Ryobi have a free tool offer on if you buy a starter kit. So I could get the Ryobi sander kit and also get a free tool of the list. Id...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Spent the day making my 2nd set of coasters. Definitely better than my 1st set. And a wine gift box for a Christmas pressies. Made form yellow ceder. Smells great. Just not sure how to finish it. Or just leave it as it is.

Hi. If anyone saw my post last week you'll remember I got given a couple of shelves of an old mangle. Most people thought it might be teak. It was my 1st time using a planer / thicknesser and getting the wood down to the dimensions I wanted. I've been working with construction and pallet wood...

    Wood ID please.

So I made my 1st little edge grain board. Few mistakes along the way including a huge blow out at the router table so the handle is a little wonky. Even managed my first finishing pop ( if that's what it's called. , 😁). If it is teak it's lovely. It has a golden shimmer to it. Let me know...

Thanks everyone. I was going to attempt a little edge grain cheeseboard and some coasters. You think it will be ok for that.

    Wood ID please.

It was out of a friend's late father's house. He thinks it was early 1900s, as far as he knows the boards are original

    Wood ID please.

Hi. Can anyone help ID this. A friend gave me it. It's the bottom of an old mangle. Wondering if it's worth cleaning up and using for some little projects. The one on the right I've given a quick sanding. Didn't take much effort to clean up. Thanks.

More practice on the router table. Things I've learnt, 1. I need a planer / thicknesser it was a big thick plank of ceder. Had to do most of it on the table saw. 2, working with the beech was much easier than the ceder. 3, I also need a sander. My arm hurts 😂

Practicing with router table so a couple of beach T-light holders. Then had a go at a handy little ceder pencil case.. I've got a thread on best way to finish the pencil case if anyone has got any ideas. Thanks.

    Simple finish.

Hi all. I'm back with another finish question. This time. It's yellow ceder. I had some so I've made a sliding top pencil case. Prob not the best wood to use but it's what I had. And it's good practice. Any ideas on how to best finish. It smells nice so be a shame to loose that. But...

So it's finished. Had to adapt it a little. Proportions all wrongs. But the misses has found a use for it. I also picked up a nice peace of beach.. any ideas what I can do with it. It's 65 x 65. I was thinking rip it down to 10mm strips and make a nice sliding lid pencil case.

So I did my best to get the wood into something workable. Planer defo next on the need list. Then spent a few hours making a box. It far from perfect. Still needs a sanding and lid cutting off. That's a job for tomorrow. I tried some wedges in the side. I used a tiny piece of cherry I had...

Hi. It's not thick enough for me to resaw.. It's about 10 - 15mm. I was thinking of sawing it where it kinks off at an angle to get 2 straightish pieces. Jointing a edge on table saw sled. Then straighten the other edge against fence. hopefully flatten it best I can with a hand plane.

Thanks everyone. I'll definitely use a mask. I'll have a go at making a box with it. Would you use the purple parts or cut it out. ?

    Wood id.

Hi all. I mentioned to a mate I liked making boxes and he's given me this piece of wood. Anyone have a guess what it may be. Why's it got a purple stain either end and if it would be any use after cutting it square. I don't have a planer, I can do the edges on my table saw sled but I'd have...

    I made a box

Thanks. But no I didn't. I just followed a YouTube vid by Steve Ramsey. I've been watching alot of his videos. The good thing is it turned out looking somewhat like his. It was a bit nerve-racking cutting the lid off. It was my 1st time using a router table. Silly how nervous I felt hoping...

    I made a box

This was maybe my 4th or 5th project. But definitely the most difficult. My other projects , a coffee table , Xmas star , 3 legged stool all had a much greater margin of error. I wanted to make something a bit more technical and learn some new techniques. So I followed a YouTube vid and made a...
