    Work Boots

I didn't realise that there were so many fancy boots out there. I've been perfectly happy with my DeWalts until I read this thread! :) I had Site (Screwfix own brand) before, but they were not that comfortable. I was quite glad when they gave up the ghost, TBH.

Andy, do those boots have a steel toecap? It doesn't say so on the description. Ta.

Can you anneal brass like copper?

It never ceases to amaze me just how much knowledge and expertise there is on this forum about all sorts of matters unrelated to woodwork.

The Best way to Make Cornice?

Ah, I see. My saw tilts the same. So for bevel cuts I move the fence to the left of the blade, like a bandsaw. S

The Best way to Make Cornice?

I'm not sure I am understanding you properly, PAC; do you mean that the problem is cutting the mitres rather than making the moulding? If so, there are two methods I have used successfully in the past. 1. Use a SCMS - Most have indents at 31.6 degrees and 33.9 degrees for tilt and bevel (not...

Yes, and I've replied - clearly you haven't received it. Hmmm.

    Don't throw away cut outs(cuttings?)

Not at all my cup of tea, but fantastic work, excellent! I take it that you cut a double, back-to-back?

    Picture frame, first attempt !

Mike's illustration is nearly right :) As it stands it would open up the point of the mitre. Try to get the pressure in line with the centre of the mitre, somewhere between the heel and the toe. This is my contribution to the technique:

Thank you all for playing. But as the buried screw of destiny meets the newly-honed planer knife of eternity I notice it's time to disembark at Mornington Crescent.

Well both of those are perfectly allowable, bit they do leave things rather wide open.

Oh well played, Sir, I didn't see that coming. You are obviously very experienced at all this. You see, guys, that's how it should be done.

Ha! You fell for that one, a Long Diagonal if ever I saw one. 3 point penalty, I'm afraid. Amateur.

At last! Somebody is taking this seriously. Pozidrive #2 Screwdriver (standard length, obviously, as I don't want to fall foul of the Long Diagonal).

Who said anything about the Triple Helsinki Rule? Obviously, that's been deprecated by the Introduction of the Short Diagonals! Have you even bothered to read the rules?

I'm sorry but we can't have that as I've already allowed the Figure of Eight, and I was in two minds about that.

Well that might adversely affect jig-only shapeners, but I'll allow it as it serves them right for not being able to hone freehand.
