    handle making jig

I think the trick there, Phil, is to make the hole first and then use the jig. I'm no turner, but I believe the mantra is "drill before you turn". It's the same principle.

That is very good indeed. I have a number of files with no handles, I can use that. Thanks for sharing.

Ripple maple Finish Osmo or Morrells shellac

Try rubbing it off as hard as you can, after just a few minutes, before it starts to get sticky.

Ripple maple Finish Osmo or Morrells shellac

After putting it on, did you wipe it completely off again? You should get an even finish after just two coats.

    Full overlay Euro hinge

I've just re-read your post and you say they are "coming to about half way of their respective frames". Overlay hinges are meant for cabinets with no frames at all. Am I missing something?

    Full overlay Euro hinge

Hmm. Can you post a picture of the position of the hinge? I don't have the exact dimensions in front of me, but IIRC the EDGE of the 35mm hole should be only a very few mm from the edge of the door. Just 2 or 3, but I can't be more specific on that without a proper drawing. It also matters what...

    Wardrobe

I've started to populate it. It's full and I have TWO WASHING-MACHINE LOADS of discards as well! One or two need to go to the clothing bank, but the rest can go to a charity shop. And I've found a posh one with cuff-link cuffs! Whoo-hoo! I wonder if I'll ever wear it?

    Wardrobe

I roped in my mate Charlie for this bit and we did it in three stages, after he finished work. Everything has had to be hauled up the stairs. We managed it, no scuffed paintwork, no smashed light fittings. But it was challenge nonetheless, that dog-leg return doesn't help at all. I laid the...

    Veneering over veneer

There are four doors to do. A single hinged Left, a double hinged L&R and a single hinged R. With the fleck of the QS figure I was intending it to look like //\\. No need to mitre, lip top and bottom edges first (bit of a clamping challenge) then lip the long sides. Then veneer over. If you've...

    Veneering over veneer

Thank you Adam. As I mentioned, I am in a bit of a quandary. The point of considering VOV was simply to reduce the amount of work. Buy a stock board, cut it and lip it to size, then veneer over the front. But having seen some very pretty boards in my local woodyard, I'm tempted to ditch the QS...

    Veneering over veneer

Thank you all, much appreciated. I am now in a quandary (or is it a quandry, I'm never quite sure, but at least it's not ambiguous). I visited David Richard's website and got accosted by a pop-up window asking if I wanted any help. Well, much as I loath this particular aspect of technology, I...

Track Saw Not Cutting to Set Depth

It's almost certainly calibrated for a bare base. With mine, I add 6mm for the rail, plus one or two mm for a clean exit. Remember that if you are using a very slightly undersized blade (for example if it has been re-sharpened to within an inch of its life) then that will affect the depth of cut...

Ooh, cutting :) You are absolutely right, of course, and I have the means to do so well. But I have 6 doors to do and quite frankly I'd rather be doing other things. This will make the job a lot less unpalatable.

Thank you - I think :) I've just bought a Domino XL. I can't find the domino systainer though. Axi have it but the voucher is not valid for them, unfortunately. Still, it's not the end of the world, I make my own dominoes by the metre. If a woody can't mill up a stick accurately, there is no...

    Veneering over veneer

I do have a bag and I think it's big enough. I used to have 2 bags and the bigger one would take 3m. One got stolen, but I think it is the big one that I still have - I'll have to check. I'm not planning to shoot the edges - as you say, that is a long shoot. Difficult to clamp. I did make a...

    Veneering over veneer

Thank you, Argus. But if I'm going to do that I may as well start with MRMDF rather than ready-veneered board. These are big panels -2.1m x 0.5m - so it's quite a big job. Well, big by my standards, anyway. I think I'll have a look to see if I have any smaller leaves that I can have a go with...

    Veneering over veneer

Morning all. I've done a bit of (but not very much) veneering in the past, but it was years and years ago and so I would never call myself an expert. I want my oak wardrobe doors to be quarter-sawn in appearance. I was hoping to buy MDF ready veneered, but when I saw the boards in the flesh...
