    Best British Cheeses

Well I had a nice trip out to Hartington yesterday and came back with a nice little selection. A Cheddar, Wensleydale, Ribblesdale Ewe and a Somerset Camembert. I also asked for a Stilton, either Colston Basset or Long Clawson. "We have Long Clawson and our own Hartington. Would you like to...

My new old Wadkin 10 AGS

OK. Well, as I say, I'm no engineer. I just use a piece of wood :)

My new old Wadkin 10 AGS

I'm no engineer, but my understanding is that brass on steel is much better, friction-wise, than steel on steel. I don't suppose it will be as cheap, mind.

    Mitre saw saw with 60°

I'm pretty sure that the big Bosch does 60. I'd have to go down to the workshop to make sure, but I think it does. It's in the same financial bracket, though.

My new old Wadkin 10 AGS

I like the way you have set up your DTI in your mitre slot. That's better than the way I've been doing mine. I had a fettle of mine just last week actually. I don't know how it happened but it was 10 thou out over the blade. I got it down to two and was happy with that, it's half a hair. So if...

My new old Wadkin 10 AGS

I rest my case, m'Lud! :) Still a great machine though.

What a fantastic project! Love it. I hope you get a great deal of pleasure out of your nice new Scheppach :)

    BLO finish

Thank you Trevanion. I think tools handles are pretty much the only thing I've ever used it for, too. However, a picture frame is not going to be handled, of course. I have thought of waxing it, but I didn't want to do so if it turns out that BLO needs 99 coats first. Is 2 enough?

    BLO finish

I've just been reading a very old thread about using Boiled Linseed Oil on oak. There seems to be a question mark over how much it darkens the wood. Too late, I've already given a picture frame two coats. I love the colour, but the finish is very dull, almost completely matt. Now I don't want...

Lorries with a hexagon logo livery

I think that, if you look back, you will find that that is exactly what I said :)

Lorries with a hexagon logo livery

Well. I've just been along to the offices of NFT. It's an enormous depot. I didn't have an appointment, of course, but I got to reception and rang the bell. A nice young man asked if he could help. "Yes please. On Saturday night one of your drivers tried to kill me and that is not hyperbole"...

    gloves

I don't use them often, but I've recently finished a box I've had for donkeys' years. I forget the brand, which is a pity, because I've bought a box from Toolstation and they are not a patch on the old ones. My fingers go through them just putting them on. I'm seriously tempted to take them...

Lorries with a hexagon logo livery

LOL! True, I did say that. But I meant that the aircon no longer works, the central locking has packed up and there are hub caps missing. It is a 15 year old Kia Picanta and has lived most, if not all of its life outside. The paintwork is dull. That kind of decrepit. A bit of a banger (the car...

Riving knife higher than the blade! - Potential Mod?

Mine just floats, so it is always in contact with either the table or the workpiece. I really cannot imagine anyone who is authorised to use a TS getting their fingers underneath it and carrying on without realising it. It is an unbelievable scenario.

Riving knife higher than the blade! - Potential Mod?

Of the three it would be the latter. I don't know the litteral translation, but it is something to do with a Swiss insurance company. It's a standard of guard of which they approve.

Riving knife higher than the blade! - Potential Mod?

Quite frankly, if anyone did that, they deserve to lose their fingers. It would be an insane thing to do and I don't see how anyone could that accidentally. "Well, yes, I did feel the guard go over my fingers but I didn't think it would be a problem."

Lorries with a hexagon logo livery

Can I just point out, for the purposes of clarity, that whilst she was almost certainly not doing 70, she was driving at a perfectly respectable speed for the time and conditions and with all due care and attention. She was not dawdling or being erratic or otherwise driving in an irresponsible...

I have learnt something new today

Many years ago now, when I was just starting to make films, I made a router jig for cutting mortices. I was doing the talking and the camera was being operated by my friend Bob. Apparently I said something strange. Bob: "You've just called it a Routice." Me: "Have I?". Sure enough I had. Take...

Lorries with a hexagon logo livery

It's not so much wanting to get him sacked from his job, but I'm sitting here wondering what would have happened if he had actually hit us. If Sheila had braked out of panic, he could not have stopped. She was completely thrown, upset, shaken, almost in tears and briefly unable to make normal...

New video - Tablesaw Mitre Jig

On the hottest Bank Holiday ever, I've been sweltering in the workshop (25 deg). I've been busy filming. And if you like it, please say so and share, share, share. Apparently it matters. Enjoy. S NnYebk1Vf9o
