Real wood veneers. Can anyone make sense of the pricing?

LOL! Don't even think about working out the cubic metre price! :) The short answer is "because the market will bear it". The slightly longer answer will probably have something to do with scale of operation, quality of veneer and lots of other stuff of which I am unaware. I recently looked...

Shooting board for long grain edge?

+1 for Tim Rousseau's design (though mine has a built-in UHMW track for the plane). I met him last week and had the opportunity to thank him for it. It's a fantastic school that he runs, in a tranquil setting, far from the madding crowd. Not jealous at all.

    Festool TS55 Rip cut blade

I can't say Yes and I can't say No, but it sounds about right to me. Try it and report back, it can hardly be a disaster. A word of warning. I once fitted a rip blade (albeit it was not a Festool blade). It did the cut fine, but it really messed up the rubber on my track because the kerf was...

    Festool TS55 Rip cut blade

It depends on how thick your stock is. If you are cutting to its capacity, 12T may be suitable, but if your stock is, say 20mm, you may be better with one of the others. With rip saws, the aim is to use as few teeth as possible, but have at least 3 in the wood at any one time. S

Table Saw Setup! - Cut pieces have a concave bow! - Help!

If the Throat Plate (TP) is a nice fit, but just not very flat, use it as a template to make some new throat plates. DS tape it to you material (mine are MDF, 12mm IIRC) and flush trim the edges. Drill a couple of finger holes, one at each end, and round them over nicely. These will make...

    Dealing with twist

Whilst doing the job again would be the best approach, I think you MIGHT just get away with pulling it down. How are you planning to attach the top to the carcase? If you are using buttons, then they can exert quite a bit of force. You might be able to pull down 2 or 3mm. Given that you have...

    Knife block

Plastic? What plastic? It's glass, wood and stainless steel.

    Knife block

I bought a new set of knives last year. Not these knives but this block: The knives themselves are lovely, but the block, whilst looking smart, doesn't actually work very well. There are two problems: 1. The knives are vertical, so when underneath a wall cabinet, I can't pull out the longer...

Edge joining boards (or pieces thereof)

Tulipwood (AKA Canary Whitewood, AKA American Poplar) is a very friendly wood. Available in good-sized clear sections, easy to work, stains and pants very nicely. It's a bit soft to the touch, you can ding it with your fingernail. It often has a green tinge when freshly cut, maybe with black...

Edge joining boards (or pieces thereof)

Probably - it's unlikely to shatter in the same way, but as I've only ever used MDF, I can't speak from experience, only logic.

Edge joining boards (or pieces thereof)

I have to say, this really does not make sense. :-k

Edge joining boards (or pieces thereof)

Yes Mike, provided that nothing ever goes wrong, you can use any material. The problems arise when something does go wrong, despite our best care. Wood that has a grain can splinter and those splinters can cause puncture wounds in a way that MDF (or plywood) cannot. Largely irrelevant, but...

Edge joining boards (or pieces thereof)

As a general rule, solid wood, of any kind, is not an ideal material to use for pushsticks. MDF would be a better choice.

    Table Saws: Purchase recommendations

I know cost is an issue, but spending on a machine that is inadequate is false economy (I'm am NOT saying that you should not buy this saw, just making a general point). Try working backwards and see what drops out. £150 is 125 +VAT. I don't know what markup the retailers make on machines...

Table Saw Setup! - Cut pieces have a concave bow! - Help!

In that video above, he is using an unguarded blade, no riving knife, no push stick and is reaching over the blade whilst it is still spinning. Although the jigs themselves may be very good, it is irresponsible to show this sort of behaviour, especially as it is usually beginners who search out...

Options for rotten top rail of field gate

The easiest option is to treat it and live with it. But if you really don't want to see it, I think I would cut out the top rail completely, re-mortice the stiles (not necessarily an easy thing to do in situ, I admit) glue in a couple of floating tenons and then drop in a new rail from above...

Table Saw Setup! - Cut pieces have a concave bow! - Help!

You say that you have set the machine up. How did you do this and what procedure did you follow? If you have set it up correctly it should perform as intended.

    sideways mortice and tenons

None of that is what you want to hear, is it? It doesn't stop it from being true, unfortunately. I don't think that I am the only one who has travelled the bodge route only to find out later that it was a bad decision. I try not to repeat that mistake on anything that actually matters...

    Enviromax

Thank you all. I guess the lady in the workshop is mistaken, either about the product they use or its eco - friendliness.
