    Tool cupboard build (final update)

That looks fabulous Mike (the tool cupboard, I mean, not the photography, that's as bad as mine :)). Really, very good indeed. Thanks for sharing.

    Raspberries

I do have a compost bin, two actually. One is currently full of horse muck (but mainly straw, unfortunately) the other is what I am currently using. But with no grass to cut, no hedges to trim and little more than a rhubarb patch, I can't ever see it getting full.

So much to learn. Thank you all very much.

    Raspberries

Well this was just a little twig when I bought it earlier this year, so I guess these are Autumn. Can I split the root to get two plants? They were delicious, but if this is a typical crop then I am going to need more plants - a lot more plants - to make a single dessert :(

    Raspberries

Rather than resurrect this old thread, I thought I'd be better starting a new one. Well I have just harvested my raspberries. All 5 of them. Not very big but good flavour. So do I now cut them off down to the pot ready for a return match next year? It will get planted in the ground once I...

Cat spider costume Well it made me laugh.

    Grafting fruit trees

I have ordered the scions, just now this minute! Not much to lose unless The B word mucks things up. The rootstock is not available until January and I haven't found any anywhere else that sells it, so now I'm thinking more about buying a quince and doing it that way. If it doesn't work I can...

    Grafting fruit trees

Don't tell me that, I've just bought it! Ooh yes please. I shall have to rearrange my landscape plans, but yes please. How big is it likely to get?

    Grafting fruit trees

Yes, I meant espalier. Horizontally. As you can see, I am new to this! OK, thanks. I do realise it will all take a few years, and I'm not as young as I was, but I do like the idea of doing it.

    What timber for front door?

In that case I am presumptuous and I apologise. I can only imagine that you were expecting too much from it. You have to compare like with like. If you expect a little domino to replace a big mortiser, you are likely to be disappointed.

    What timber for front door?

I agree, Jacob (sorry I just need to lie down for a moment...) And that is the main problem with the Domino, it is very pricey. But it is quick and, within its limitations, it does a superb job (you'll just have to take my word on that as you have never actually used one) and it does it quickly...

    making a riving knife question

Hi Bob, Yes I have, when drilling. I'm no metal-man, so my metal experience is not extensive, but yes, when drilling the stuff you have to be bold and decisive. Get through the darn stuff before it starts to fight back. If you let it get hot it will simply destroy your drills. Well, mine, anyway.

    Grafting fruit trees

I'm already a YT expert on bud grafting, now I have more to investigate :) Thank you very much. S

    Grafting fruit trees

Thank you Jimmy So are you taking the scions now and storing them, or taking them in the spring and grafting them immediately? The problem is that the scions on offer are available now.

    What timber for front door?

I think we all agree that the best solution is to fix the original. 2nd best is to re-make the original using traditional techniques. The question therefore is what to do if these two options are not viable. I'm simply suggesting that a well-made domino door is better than a poorly-made...

    What timber for front door?

I'm pretty sure that if you could get the glass panels out intact, you could get them incorporated into a modern Double Glazed unit. Well worth doing if you can. S

    Grafting fruit trees

I've never been a gardener. Sure, I like to see a nice garden, and indeed, I once had a nice garden, but someone else did the hard work, the grafting, ha-ha. I have quite a reasonable area of garden to look after, even with a couple of good-sized outhouses, and, having got my house into...

    What timber for front door?

On that we can agree. S
