    Down the garden path...

That'll be me then. :) Mind you, I like precision but I didn't actually plane it flat... :)

    Down the garden path...

I didn't know that, thank you. But sadly I don't know anyone with such a gizmo. If you have one and are within striking distance of NG17, you are welcome to come and find it and claim your prize of a socially-distanced cuppa. I've discovered that my spare SD card, which I've had for ages but...

    AndyT`s Bench.Talk.101 now on YouTube

How do you know? :) Although that is a bit of a giggle, I admit, it's also a serious thought. How do you know when the sub-titles with which you are presented are an accurate reflection of what is being said?

    Down the garden path...

Thank you all. I know. The guy picked them up this morning and said, "You're not the first..." Except that my camera takes SD cards, not USB sticks :) Ah yes, you mean this... Just one more job on the list. Thank you all.

    ABC Ironmongery, Derby

Just a heads up for a really good traditional hardware supplier. I tootled along this week and got some very nice quality table forks. If you want knobs, knockers, drawer pulls, hinges or the like, I can heartily recommend. It's not a shop as such, but a unit in an old mill, and you have to go...

    Baffled by bandsaw

Bandsaws are very simple machines. I'm sorry to have to say it but unless there is some sort of mechanical failure, such as a bearing, which you would hear and feel, failings are almost always down to wrong choice of blade or poor machine setup and technique. If the machine is man enough for the...

    Down the garden path...

Once upon a time, in a thread long ago... Well it might not be H&G stuff, but this morning I took delivery of some granite chippings And with a little help from Ray and Charlie (who else did you expect?), we barrowed and raked. Charlie was Tucker-Inner-in-Chief We were done by 11am...

    Wagyu

I've faked sous video before now by vac sealing the piece, dropping it into a pan of water at 80, or whatever, then bunging it in the oven at 80. It works well. AJB - Waitrose and Green Eggs - you are toooo posh 😀

Does it need two coats? :) Thank you.

    Forstner bits

This is interesting. I recently bought a set of Famag Twin-Lip_and_Spur and they are wonderful. It's just that I've had to have therapy about the price, but I am recovering. I have an Axi set of Forstners. They are OK, but only OK. I used to have a few Clico ones which were superb. If you have...

Finishing pippy oak to make it look spectacular

Johnny I don't know, really. I just want to look at it and think WOW!. And hopefully others will, too. I like the colour of BLO and have so far given it one coat. I've discovered that I haven't filled the pippy voids as well as I thought I had, so there is a bit of rememdial epoxy work to do...

Droogs - Sorry, I didn't reply to you. Well, I did, actually, but I obviously forgot to press the Submit button. Apologies and thank you. I do like General, but I think the product you link to is out of stock.S

    You may well be right!

    Poor man's sliding table

That makes sense. At least for a large sheet. My sled isn't for that, though. With the fence at the far end (and I could put it there if I wanted, of course), the sled wouold be hanging of the front too far at the start of the cut. My saw doesn't have the sort of outrigger support that those...

    instant-water-heater

I had one from Screwfix. It was about £60, IIRC and it lasted precisely 370 days. I replaced it with a Chinese cheapo, for a third of the price and it has been brilliant. The temp is adjustable (unlike the SF jobbie - that was on or off). It's not this particular model, but very similar...

    Poor man's sliding table

That's a good point Bob, and I made my first tenon-shoulder sled like that. But in the picture above there is massive support in front of the blade, enough to support a full sheet. But if you are using a tablesaw rather than a panel saw, there is nowhere near as much support, often only a foot...
