No longer remotely Shaker(ish) dining table

You are all getting me worried now - which, if I am wrong, is a good thing. Have you got a picture, please?

No longer remotely Shaker(ish) dining table

That is exactly what has happened, Andy. I always get a bit worried when people describe something as "interesting"... :)

No longer remotely Shaker(ish) dining table

It's a spiggot 40mm dia and 30mm long. I could make it longer by beefing up the cross-piece in the centre (anyone know what that part is called?).

I saw an advert for a Shaker Bar Stool once! They'll be making Shaker condoms next...

No longer remotely Shaker(ish) dining table

Back in September I went on holiday to Maine, USA. We visited a Thomas Moser shop. There was a massive (12-seater) extending dining table in cherry. The ends were flat like a refectory table, rather than tripodic(?), and they were 3 peices joined in a Y shape. I assume there were splines inside...

That is an important consideration, certainly. It will be a gert big sliding dovetail. I might make the feet a tad more vertical. Three-legged Shaker tables sometimes had a metal plate under the column holding the three dovetails together. That is another possibility.

    Geography

I should not mock. I once set of from Nottingham on a business trip to Eastborne. Long before SatNav, it was an AA road atlas. Route all planned. I was halfway there before I realised my customer was actually in Bournemouth... Well at least they are both on the south coast.

    Geography

I have two friends, S lives in Bolsover, S44, J lives in Blidworth, NG21. Tomorrow, S is going to J's house for the first time. SatNav does not exist. Directions from J: "Go past B&Q, first left, second right." Reply from S: "OK, but I'll be fine, I have an A-Z of Chesterfield." J made no...

No longer remotely Shaker(ish) dining table

I've been without a proper dining table for several years, making do with an old and small, octagonal, mahogany table that always stood in my grandparents' window with a vase of flowers on it. It's fine for one, OK for two but too cosy for comfort with any more. I've had a design in my head for...

    Hardware stores Nottinghamshire

Ah yes, Hopkinson's. A wonderful place. Mahogany counters, hundreds of wooden drawers and, as Pete says, men in brown coats and ladders (I don't mean they were wearing ladders...). When they closed and it was taken over by a box-shifting operation, it was all ripped out. Just vandalism, it...

FTAGH - Battery with charger - spoken for

I had a Workzone (Aldi) cordless drill. Past tense. Just before Christmas it went up in smoke, literally. Saddened, as it been a good little workhorse, but not impressed it had not yet reached its second birthday. Never mind, Aldi have a 3-year warranty. Do you have the receipt, sir? Of course...

    Virus

I don't think that all Brits are out of China yet, it's being organised, yes, but it's not yet a done deal. It must be terrifying to look at absolutely everyone and wonder if they are going to kill you.

    radial arm saw advice

That looks like a rip blade to me, it should be a crosscut blade. It probably just needs setting up, square in all axes. But as Mike says, don't even switch it on without its guard, it could kill you, and I'm not being flippant. Just don't. If it came with its guard, fit it now. If it doesn't...

I'm shocked! Lagavulin is not whiskey, it is whisky! I need to go and lie down in a dark room, preferably with a glass of either. :) S

Entry hall table for a niece

That makes sense, thank you. I'm flattered, Derek, but I assure you I couldn't do dovetails like that. I'd mitre it, stick in a few biscuits and tell everybody they were secret mitred dovetails. :)

Derek, I don't know what a Since board is. Can you elaborate, please, I'm enjoying following this, even though it is way above my pay grade :)

    Virus

When I did my Masters, a long time ago now, half my colleagues were Chinese and, of course, we became friends. I tried to be a good host, days out to Chatsworth, Chistmas dinner chez Maskery and the like. I asked them if there was anything particular they wanted to do while they were over here...

I have a headband unit. Looks ridiculous, but works very well. It's not this model, but the same idea:. Link

I think if I did that I'd get even fewer viewers.
