    Steve's workbench build

Yes. He is at the far end of the shop at Rainworth Fencing. Good bloke.

    Steve's workbench build

Craig at High Peak in Rainworth. There is just under £60 worth there.

    Ha-bloody-ha :)

    Steve's workbench build

Having got the design pretty much nailed down, at least for the top, I decided I should make a start. I want to do this quickly, I don't want it dragging on like the wardrobe did. And I want to do it cheaply, too. Twenty-odd years ago, when I built my current bench I was considerably wealthier...

To (ol) well or not to (ol) well? That is the question

The good thing (well, one of many, I hope) about my design is that if I discover, that I don't really love her, I can replace the tool well with a few more 3x2s and make the whole lot solid again.

To (ol) well or not to (ol) well? That is the question

I'd never thought of that Phil, good point. Both my drill and mortiser are floor-standing, but it's a very good point for anyone with bench-mounted machines.

To (ol) well or not to (ol) well? That is the question

Stop it! This could bankrupt me. No, I'm going to resist, I'm going to try to built the bestest low-budget bench you ever did see. I'd still like to come and see yours, mind. :)

The Ups and Downs ...mainly Downs..of selling a flat.

I used to wear a suit. It was a very long time ago and I was not in the legal or financial trades. Software company. But I always did my job to the best of my ability. I'm not at all certain I still possess a suit. If I do, I probably can't get into it... :(

    Axminster st 480 drum sander

That's a good way to approach it. Edit: Sorry, I was responding to Myfordman, I didn't see that there was another page of this! My post probably didn't make a lot of sense...

To (ol) well or not to (ol) well? That is the question

I'm interested in one, not so much for the tool storage itself, but for the ability to get a clamp in there. I've bought some wood, but when I laid it out and saw it full size I decided it was time to get rid of some of those dog holes. I don't need so many. So this is the latest iteration...

    Domino Size Advice

I'd completely forgotten that my first one was exactly like yours, Fezman. This is my set: Looking at them now, I think my description in my earlier post is not quite accurate. It looks like I've only done the job with the pin moved over to the LH side of the original mortice. I also have...

Excellent. When I've got my eyes in I'll go down to the workshop and take a photo of mine.

    Domino Size Advice

The original idea was that if I ended up doing a series of films, I could have a different whacky shirt for each one. But it kind of backfired. I got a lot of flack, people didn't get it. In fact, I've had more compliments in this thread than in the last 14 years since it was filmed :) I'm not...

    Domino Size Advice

LOL. It originated as a joke and then kind of got out of hand... Actually I loved that shirt, I wish I still had it. You know, for special occasions.

To (ol) well or not to (ol) well? That is the question

That looks very nice, Colin, very drool-worthy indeed. I take it the handwheel is extra? I must admit the one thing I don't like about my Fortune-Nelson tail vice is the way it sticks out, I just can't justify spending many hundreds of pounds on this, which is what would happen if I made my...

No longer remotely Shaker(ish) dining table

I've not weighed it, but if you assume a density of 500kg/m3, then the whole thing without the feet comes in at about 26kg. That is less than 7kg per foot. Does that seem excessive to you? It doesn't to me, but I am no structural engineer.

    New Workshop - old floor

Caberfloor comes with a PU top layer. It's already sealed and is non-slip. No need for any treatment at all, just lay it down and walk on it.

    New Workshop - old floor

I can recommend Caberfloor as a top layer. Hard-wearing and non-slip. I did mine with it and would do the same again in a heartbeat. S

To (ol) well or not to (ol) well? That is the question

This is where my thought processes have got to. I'd like my new bench to be a tad wider than my present one, which is 555mm. I can't afford to make it much longer without having to move the TS, which I don't want to do. I've thought of another reason for lowering it a bit. It's slightly higher...
