    Steve's workbench build

Well. I tidied up the tenons on the bandsaw, including the haunches: So then I could do a dry assembly. I did think about doing draw-boring for the tenons, but decided it was too much work and wasn't necessary. Then Mike came along... So I have been shamed into doing the job properly...

    Bit of a shame

I recently had someone commenting negatively on one of my videos before admitting they hadn't actually watched it... Go figure, as our American cousins might say.

    Forstner bit set

Does anyone sell the good ones singly in the UK? The Dieter Schmid ones are a reasonable price (well in that bracket) but if I buy them one at a time, the P&P makes them much less attractive. I used to have some nice Clicos. Sigh.

    Forstner bit set

I've had an Axminster set for years. Continuous rim, not sawtooth. They were OK when they were new, they are barely OK now and I'm looking for replacements. I have seen the ones sold by Dieter Schmid (and he sells even more expensive ones), but it's hard to justify the cost, TBH. So I'll follow...

    Garden paint

OIC. I hadn't thought of that. But I would not have expected there to be anything mega-toxic in it. It's water-based and so clean-up is going to end up down the sink.

    Garden paint

I've just given my herb garden raised bed a lick of paint. On the tin it says, "Not suitable for Interior use". ??? If a paint can be used in exterior conditions, why on earth can it not be used indoors? It doesn't make sense to me.

    Latest Vodafone rip-off

I'm looking for a good deal for a very un-tech friend of mine. A company that runs on the back of Three (I forget its name) was recommended by a friend of mine, but he struggles with signal, and the signal map of Bolsover is not impressive (but then, neither is Bolsover itself, despite its...

    Latest Vodafone rip-off

Not very related, but... I got a text from EE - "We were unable to process this month's payment, please login to update your details and continue using your normal allowance." There was a Tiny URL. I didn't click on it on my phone, but I did type it in on my Mac. EE login page. I log in. Zero...

    Circular saw sharpening jig

Clean it up sympathetically (i.e. clean it but don't remove the patina), frame it with a little plate that says "I'm retired after years of helping to cut miles and miles of wood". You'll smile every time you look at it.

    TV licence

Yes, don't panic. They might come a-knocking but you don't have to let them in. The phrase you need is "I revoke your Implied Right of Access". They then have to remove themselves to beyond the boundary of your property. The is no absolute right to come to your front door, but if you have a...

    Bartering goods, skills, time, etc.

Ooh, I'll have to try that next time I totally agree. It's like a good stoneground loaf compared to sliced white.

LOL! Get yourself some good flour and follow my tutorial on Instructables

Why were they oily? There is no oil in the recipe, and the pan should just be lubricated and wiped out. It's really no more difficult than making pancakes. I wonder what you were doing wrong?

    Bartering goods, skills, time, etc.

I know the feeling, Phil. I once helped a mate to fit a kitchen; a weekend, a week of evenings, and the following weekend. We got it done. My reward was a quarter pound of Thornton's toffee. Really. S

Indeed, Andy, indeed. I've even used them in place of a pasta sheet to make a Stokie Lasagna, before now. OK, I admit I prefer the pasta, but even so, they are very wonderful.

    Coronavirus

I'm seriously considering wearing my powered respirator when I go out shopping. OK, the filters are for dust, but the virus is waterborne and water will not penetrate the filters. I might have to disinfect them regularly, though. I do genuinely think that that is the biggest threat that my...

As you may know, I like being in the kitchen as much as I like being in the workshop. I also grew up in Stoke, but, fortunately, managed to escape at 18, though after a brief dalliance with Middle Classness, I have ended up in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, so Frying Pan and Fire spring to mind. There is...

    Steve's workbench build

OK, two different jigs, maybe. But putting the same workpiece through the same jig twice definitely does not work, there is too much vibration at the cutting point. I cut a nice dowel that was just a bit too big, so I tapped the chisel, put it through again and it came out as rough as a rough...

    Steve's workbench build

I wouldn't want to do it on the TS, Pete, but I do have a design in my head for one for the RT, offering a number of different sizes and DX. I have a fine adjuster on my RT fence, so I should be able to dial in pretty precisely. Mike - no it seems strange to me why pine would work fine and Bog...
