    Getting a Will witnessed

I've been thinking of recording it as a video. I wonder if that would hold water if push came to shove. S

    Getting a Will witnessed

I've not yet had to go out to get groceries. I have a bit of fresh stuff, but you don't get through a lot on your own. My head of broccoli is on the turn, sadly, but I still have carrots, parsnips, cabbage, eggs and milk. An end-of-life leek, too. Maybe it's time for soup :) I think I must have...

Yes, but that's making something of an assumption, Roger...

    Getting a Will witnessed

I do have a Will, but I want to change a bit of it and, given the current circumstances, that needs to happen sooner rather than later. I can easily edit it on my computer, but it will have no validity unless it is witnessed by two people. Given that I live alone, don't want to go out and don't...

    Coronavirus

I agree it doesn't make a lot of sense. B&Q and Screwfix are deemed essential, but we are all being told to stay at home except for essential supplies and medical stuff. I find it difficult to equate a tin of Dulux with Necessity. I bought some timber last week, but it is the dregs and I want...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Mike, can that not just go to the same (presumed) soakaway that the roof runoff is going to go to?

    FWW Video

I've received an email from Taunton about loose tenons. Ye gods. Now I'm a fan of loose tenons and have been long before the Domino came along, so I watched the video. Lots of good theory, but the tablesaw discipline - I despair. No guard, no RK, long fence for ripping, reaching over a...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

My 2p having been down this road. In no particular order: Floating floor works well. I can recommend Caberfloor as a top layer. Not much more expensive than chipboard, hard-wearing and doesn't need any finish on it. Decide how many sockets you want and then double it. Really. Insulate...

    Coronavirus

I've just posted something that apparently is not true, or at least, is denied by the Italians. My apologies if anyone read it and was alarmed. I've deleted it.

SIP 1486 12in bandsaw rip fence

You should not need to do this AT ALL. The fence should be parallel to the mitre slots and the top wheel tracked until drift is ELIMINATED, not compensated for. That way, rips cuts are straight and crosscuts are too.

    Coronavirus

I spoke to some friends in Spain this morning. They have been in lockdown for a week. They are not allowed out of their home (trailer caravan type of thingy). Police stop every vehicle they see. EUR600 fine if you don't have a good excuse for being on the road. There is a supermarket on site...

    Coronavirus

I am also in contact with my friend and publisher in Italy. Francesco lives near Fumicino airport, so nominally Rome. I pointed out, as I think I have done here, that it is no good having all this time on our hands to spend in the workshop if we cannot go out and buy any wood. He said his 2...

    Coronavirus

If I'm honest Jake, I can't remember what they are. But it stops me coughing on anyone else, it stops them coughing on my face (though not on my hands unless I am wearing disposable gloves - I did a couple of days ago and forgot today), and it also stops me touching my face. That is really hard...

    Coronavirus

Sadly, living in the sort of neighbourhood that I do, I have no difficulty in believing that at all. I'm glad that you live somewhere rather more salubrious. Mind you, when I'm out in my helmet, I don't get any flack, not even from the local cognoscenti.

    Bandsaw advice request

I have the Scheppach's big brother, the Basato 5. It has never let me down.
