    "Low-skilled" workers

I'm pretty sure that I heard a R4 piece today referring to the increased risk of C-19 to "low-skilled" workers such as chefs. Really? I would never have put chefs into that category, I've cooked too many disappointing dinners myself to do that. (Although this evening's spicy pineapple pork chop...

    Bandsaw blade drift

For very narrow blades I stick a disc of thin MDF to the faces of the guide bearings and let the teeth cut their own path. Like a ZCI. I can properly support blades down to 1/16" that way. ideal for bandsawn dovetails.

    Bandsaw blade drift

Yes, there is less steel to stretch, so less force required to tension it. Hmm. I advise against that. It's fine if you only ever want to rip, but for any kind of cross-cut or jig operation using the mitre fence, it will throw you out. Much better to set the blade true in the first place and...

    Flush vice or not?

I used to have my vice proud of the front. It did enable me to slip auxilliary jaws over when I used a router mortice jig. But I've just built a new bench and the legs, top and bottom rail are all in the same plane, on the sage advice of Chris Schwartz, and the advantages are clear from the very...

    A Dining Table Restoration

Fantastic job. Personally I wouldn't have painted the legs but it's great to see an old unloved piece given a new lease of life. Excellent.

Yes, I can see that working. I like my anglepoise lamp.It was a 21st birthday present from my favourite aunty. It's old and battered now, but still going. A bit like me.

Well (ha-ha, did you see what I did there?), The jury is still out. The first problem I found was that my anglepoise lamp does not sit on the bench any more unless I have it right to the front. I didn't think of that; OTOH I can have that end of my bench flush, with the rest of it having a tool...

    Wardrobe

I should have added that I was pleased with them Good quality. Rather scruffy-looking as they are donkeys' years old, but they are not seen and anyway a coat or two of paint made them look good, too. S

    Simple project with my daughter

In a previous life, I helped my 14-year-old nephew to make a Shaker step stool and a Shaker round table. He did both jobs very well. I remember being absolutely knackered after two days with him (and I was, once, a very poor "proper" teacher). I don't see him these days, well, you know, Life...
