    Hello from sunny Nuneaton

The plan is to glue the boards together so the narrow edges form the bench top and it's nice and thick. I don't have anything fancy like a thicknesser. I do have a table saw though. So I thought I would try using it to skim the wide-face surface of some of the crappiest bits, as an experiment...

    Hello from sunny Nuneaton

Yay! I posted the last thing I made - my upstairs "lab bench" :) The garage bench is being made out of pallet wood, which isn't easy when I haven't really got anything to flatten it! Enjoying the challenge, though.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

When I appealed for some wood to make a couple benches out of, someone gave me a broken wardrobe, and I used it (and a couple of mdf kitchen bits) to make this bench for my electronics lab, though I really don't like chipboard it's all that was needed and worked well. I made the wardrobe base...

    Budget Glue

"Budget" being the initial outlay, and how long it will keep me going for, rather than the cost per bond. But I agree with your point. I'd forgotten about Cascamite - we used it when I worked for antique furniture making guy, long ago.

    Budget Glue

Interesting. Thanks for the responses. So the balance is, stick with PVA for larger areas, and consider a more specialist glue for smaller pieces, yes? Brand loyalty aside, is Titebond significantly better? I see it used in various projects on the web. What are it's advantages?

Are Skillsaw designed for left handed people?

Sure you weren't born left but forced to be right? Lefty here - I do most things left, some things right. I feel like a handedness-traitor. Really....

    Budget Glue

I've been using some PVA-based UHU wood glue I got from Lidl years ago, which has served me pretty well, but then I don't do anything very serious, so that's fine. Now I'm looking forward to my makes getting a bit more serious. Still on a budget, but I'd like to get some better glue...

Pop quiz, spot what the issue is... and the fix

I'm really confused about what has happened here, please help me understand! So what I see is, you drilled holes in a metal table, which then turns out to be plastic (can't tell from 1st pic) You realised you needed to counterbore the holes so some nuts could be hidden in them Fitted a sleeve to...

Bowed long boards - any remedy?

New to the forum here, but I can relate to bent stuff! When I worked for a guy who made antique furniture, we'd produce a bent cupboard door now and again. The trick is to soak the inner face of the bow, which expands. Fastening it in place so it can't go back when it dries makes it keep it's...

    Hello from sunny Nuneaton

Pretty much the middle of the Midlands here... Just moved house. Collecting wood to make a bench in the garage, cabinets for tools and stuff. Looking forward to having the space and tooling to make accurate joints! Also, being able to keep wood, metal, and electronics away from each other...
