    Improved hand tool myth.

It can be argued that wire wrap is permanent, since (with the correct pins being used) it forms a cold weld.

    Improved hand tool myth.

Are we talking about a team of highly trained and coordinated cats here? Or about when the cat no longer has a use for it?

what tunes make u crank up the volume.....?

I rarely listen to music deliberately, however when I did it was Dire Straits, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon that I actually bothered with, nowadays it's tunes from the 90s and 00s if I happen to hear them. TBH though I'm just not that interested although either because of or in spite of, I enjoy...

What kind of woodworker are you?

Knock-together-er. Honestly I don't refer to myself as anything. Jack of all trades. I work as an EPOS field service engineer, but that's just fixing computer stuff. I don't really get where the engineer part comes in. I worked as a finisher, long ago, polishing stripped pine furniture, then...

How to stop mice pinching the traps?

I'll raise a shrew bite to your sister's mouse bite!

    Grrrr and double grrrrrr grrrr

Well I count one Grrrr, two grrrrrr's and two grrrr's. So it's like dogs really - you can have 5 dogs but 3 different kinds :)

    Grrrr and double grrrrrr grrrr

I actually used one of these a few years ago. Bog had previously been fitted with two of the normal fittings in-line. Wish I'd stuck with that scheme. The extendable one was slightly too long at it's shortest. Never mind, trimmed the pipe slightly, moved the bog slightly. Then the bloody thing...

How to stop mice pinching the traps?

Electric fence for slugs. There was a thread on ETO a while back about making one. Copper tape also deters molluscs.

    Soldering question...

I'm inclined to think the wire will be aluminium because of its light weight. The silver colour would tend to corroborate that. You can get special solder for that. Re: enamel - it's entirety possible that it's plain enamel and not polyputthekettleon type, which doesn't melt and has to be...

    Mark from Oxfordshire

Agreed - if it's for fun, who cares how long you take? I have electronics projects that have been going on for years! Nice letter rack :)

To whomever is stealing my pencils..

When I was in Junior school I set off home and realised I had lost my pencil. I found it eventually... In my hand!

To whomever is stealing my pencils..

My new pencil is covered with bright yellow labels, with wifely-written humorous comments on them about not losing it, and behind ear placement (ironically, the labels make it too scratchy for ear-mounting). So far I've only lost it once, admittedly for about a fortnight.

Impact Driver : Bosch Blue or Metabo

I have a Milwaukee Fuel impact driver. Decided to stop working within I guess the first 100 screwings. Retuned for repair and they sent a whole new one. Milwaukee it seems are known for breaking down early, but they do have a very good warranty process. Got a Metabo (mains) angle grinder for my...

    Tool cupboard advice/ideas

Doug - those are so nice! I like the hidden magnet idea. Have you found your turning tools have become slightly magnetic? Sideways - great idea with the whiteboards. I never thought of magnetting up my notes either!

    Tool cupboard advice/ideas

I need to make a wall mounted tool cupboard. It can be 2 or maybe 3-at-a-push feet wide and something over 3 feet tall. It's to go on a garage wall. Depth is limited by the potential to bang my head on it (I'm clumsy). I quite like the idea of doors that have a deep frame so they can accommodate...

    Hi From New Woodworker

Welcome! I'm on my own Big Bench Build journey - pallet wood layered up so the edges form the top surface. It's slow going! (11 layers and 7" deep so far...) I made a temporary bench to be going on with out of a bit of old kitchen worktop and some thick pallet risers for the frame and legs. It's...

    Anyone tried DIY copper electroplating?

Oooh ooohhh! I actually do copper electroplating! Onto... copper! But I had to learn a fair bit to do it adequately. So, what I do is through-hole plating of PCBs, which if you don't know, means drilling a lot of very small (sub-mm) holes in a piece of double sided copperclad board (the...

Looks a lot better than my actual kitchen...

    What got you started ?

I can't put my finger on any particular thing. I think it's just in my blood and my bones. My Grandpa was an engineer, and I spend many happy hours in his home workshop, my natural and adoptive fathers were both motor mechanics at the beginning, but I don't think I learnt much from either of...
