Post a photo of the last thing you made

The main difficulty and time consuming bit is the drawing. I think once the drawing was completed, so just machining to dimensions and then marking and hand tooling all the cuts, it was probably around 4 days work. I could be out by a fair bit with that though because a lot of it is done after...

The latest model is a French/Moore trestle. It was around 3 years ago I decided I would be able to complete one of these and I have finally gotten around to it on the course. Not damaging the pointy bits while hand tooling or before glue up was a challenge for me but fortunately the only one i...

Because it's a model all I did was half lap joints where the crosses meet. When this stage is over I'll redo (with slight changes) several of the models but with some more challenging jointing. I am rushed for time so can't spend extra on details like that for now

It is rippled sycamore. I had a fair bit more but wasted it by not checking measures and building an entire model wrong. Big mistake but it looks lovely and I'll be on the hunt for some more when I have space

A model for a course I'm doing. Working out all of the angles from drawings on paper. They're starting to look a bit nicer now so I'll start uploading them even though I'm not doing anything with them. This one has gone to my dad who will stick a top on it and use it as a table. It's...

I am on stage 3 so no vaults yet but things are getting interesting with lots of diverse pieces. I got into it after getting curious several times I on site when I was realising that noone really knew what they were doing while roofing and it has snowballed since. I can't get enough, just very...

I am doing the online stereotomy course and noticed the book in the photo. Are you able to read it? The majority of books on the subject are in french, which I have, but Google translate or even fluent French speakers have trouble with them due to the terminology. Do you have a method for...

    Sold Woodworkers Workbench

Roughly how long do the benches take to dismantle and/or reassemble? I am in a position where that might have to be done most weeks

Lie Nielsen or Clifton 5 1/2?

I have several lie Nielsen and a couple Clifton's. The Clifton's are lovely to use and great performance. I did have to switch the blade in the 5 1/2 because it was so far from flat that it was irrecoverable. But since there has been a proper blade in there it is superb. The Lie Nielsen's are...

    Jim Byrne table saw

Does anyone here own one? I am doing a course that involves building, at a guess because there are multiple stages, around 100 small models. 5mm wide timbers is very common and the the sizing is vital. It seems the Jim Byrne machine is the gold standard for model making but they are in America...

    Bandsaw advice

I've decided a bandsaw is going to be the biggest help for what I am after but have close to zero knowledge on the small (I think they are small) differences between them. Two that look suitable for me, but also very similar to each other, are the axminster AP2552B and axminster AP1854B. The...

    Timber framing chisels

Thanks for the replies guys. I am looking for a framing chisel, not slick, for chopping green oak. I have a Barr slick and chisels up to 50mm but want to try something bigger. D_W thanks for being so up front about what it is you do. The abuse the chisel would be getting (60mm width chopping...

    Planing rough sawn poplar

Hi all, I've had some rough sawn poplar for a while now and today started to tidy it up before it gets put together. I am very new to this. When planing (using my low angle Jack plane) there was a lot of tear out. Its figured timber. No matter how careful I am working with the grain there is too...
