    Crumbling cement floor in workshop

Hi dave, the advantage of the epoxy paint is its strength, as it wont wear through easily, so as long as it bonds to the substrate,it should help hold things together a bit. It wouldn't cure any weak crumbly areas, but it might be enough to hold it the top surface together. Is there any...

    Sharpening

It a cheap way of getting razors properly sharp. If you wanted to get a sharper edge, you could buy a couple of the finer grits of paper to finish off your normal routine. Or if you dont, dont. It goes back to post 415 No point discussing it any further

    Sharpening

Well, in the writing, he describes setting up a test using the same pieces of wood, with the blades sharpened in different ways for each plane for the test. He ( from memory) focussed on delivering the same pressure with each pass and counted how many strokes he got until the edge dulled...

Primary at jagged rock angle, secondary at more jagged rock angle and if you can fit a third bevel, you need seriously jagged rock angle 🤣

    Sharpening

Exactly. Camp 1, which is fine. D_w's point is that his edge can last longer. As for money, lapping film is cheap. Time? Not really much extra, maybe 20 seconds with a buffing wheel.... Davids point to his lower angle was that you only regrind to the angle once, then its set and youd do as...

    Sharpening

Maybe this thread should be locked and stickied to every forum subsection.... that way it'll act as a deterrant to further sharpening discussion 😅 if nothing else it'll take a day or two to read it all 😆 Bingy man certainly got his moneys worth out of this one!! 😁

    Tried another new steel...AEB-L

Very much, but the world would collapse into anarchy within minutes. Within hours there'd be nuclear weapons flying around people looting poundland 🤣

    Sharpening

It definitely works and has done for probably hundreds of years..... But that wasnt the point. The point was that if you want sharper, you can get it without much extra effort or expense. These sharpening discussions are always the same because the 2 camps dont recognise each others position...

    Replacement Bandsaw Spring

You coukd try measuring it and searching for that size. No guarantee it'll work out though.... i needed a new one for my record machine, so i measured and bought one off ebay, not springy enough, just stretched and stayed that way. So i bought a thicker and shorter one from china, made of...

    Sharpening

Give it a try Jacob..... but clearly my point was that you can get a VERY sharp edge quite quickly if you want..... its just progress. In the late 1800s they probably just used slate ( maybe 10 to 12k grit from uk slate, 18kish from a thungarian ) now diamond pastes do easily 80k grit. For very...

    Sharpening

For a minute there when it was all shotguns i thought we'd lost the topic for good 🤣 Exactly. @Jacob lives for this! Waterstones produce a very fine edge because they are smoother ( less coarse ) and some of them are ridiculously fine. And now expensive. Ive got waterstones, oil, lapping...

    Hand held electric planer advice

Thats a fair bit $193, they list 18v makita..... i guess thats plus shipping and we might get hit with import tax? The other thing is how good they are. Some stuff that comes out of china is made of chineeesium, which isnt good..... like my new hydraulic dumper. Which broke down 3 times in less...

    thats the end.....!!!!!!

I have a couple of estwings and a bahco for site use. I bought a stanley 'sure strike' and I hate it. Ive got a couple of old wooden gandled hammers ( claw and pein ) in the workshop. My 4lb club hammer has a fibreglass shaft and the rubber grip is knackered. Id like to replace it with the...

    super glue.....

On site we use mitre mate. Its basically superglue with a spray that speeds up the reaction.... you spray one piece of the joint, apply glue to the other, press together and ten seconds later your fingers are stuck to the wood 🤣

    Hand held electric planer advice

I'll just throw this out there..... on sampson boat co one of the guys made a router sled and a carrier for an electric planer. It was fully adjustable. Maybe episode 15 to 20 kinda range? They were doing the frames with it. I havent even seen that before!! Im interested to know how this...

    High Gloss Finish Recommendations

Hello, Firstly, id suggest you take them to a spray shop.... they'll do the biz. But if you want to do it yourself, by hand, you'll want oil based to soak in to the edges so you can sand it back to being smooth. If you use water based it'll make the material swell more, but not seal it, so the...
