    Mortgage rates / interest etc

Hi all, In February our mortgage deal ends... so we are currently trying to decide which way to jump... We can remortgage at an increase of nearly 3% taking us to 5.94% ( 2 yr fix ) or 5 yr fix was a touch cheaper, or the mortgage advisor was suggesting a tracker.... or we can wait until...

    Mechanical pencil alternative

Ive got a tracer, a few mechanical pencils ir varying lead thicknesses but i end up back with staedler hb.... i get the multipacks just before the new school term because tesco flog them off cheaper 😅 Most of the mechanical leads break when you drop the pencil, even happens with the tracer...

    Drying floors

The plumbers specified the system, probably through their supplier, Grant. The aim was a low profile system because there's about 40mm above the old linings to lintle height, so we could put in the ufh and engineered oak and still fit full height doors👍

    Saving fuel

Maybe im missing something, and I'll have to check next time im driving the truck, but i think at 70ish, maybe 75, id be at about 2800rpm, which is pretty low.... and im sure they used to say to keep below 3000rpm for good fuel economy

    Saving fuel

I guess that depends how many coppers you encounter on the journey 🤣 quite a few years ago i did some mad things in cars, but now with dashcams everywhere, youd get locked up! Reducing speed limits is not going to happen.... 1st they want to move us to electric, second, shipping / transport...

    Dry Heat Heater

Dessicant dehumidifiers work more efficiently at lower temps than refrigerant ones, but below maybe 4 or 5°c, it starts being pointless. Also, as i found out 😒 they can freeze and get wrecked..... so 8f it gets proper cold, save youself the hasstle and keep it off because it doesnt work near...

    Saving fuel

I used to run a series 3 landy on vegetable oil, it made no difference 😆 In terms of mpg, ive never once bothered, just accepted that i have to pay for it. Probably the worst i had was a 3ltr manual pajero swb soft top, an awesome truck, could wheelspin up through the gears. It cost 75 quid to...

    Drying floors

And yep, similar kit to ours. I guess the primer will have gone off long before you try sticking the trays though. From what i can see, the primer kind of guarantees the surface is stable or at least, any remaining dust is bonded down too, giving a fresh surface to grip to

    Drying floors

Thanks Spectric, but be careful there.... you need to check the screed specs..... i primed the floors with sbr previously ( after hoovering ) and the screeders raised an issue with it. After talking to a tech department, it seems they require the floors painted with an acrylic primer as sbr...

    Drying floors

Hi, Good point, a fan or 2 would help.... Its a piped ufh system, laid in plastic trays which are self adhesive, so the floor should be dry for the trays to stick to it.... it's possible to screw the trays as well if necessary, but more work. The pipes get a liquid screed over the top, such...

    Drying floors

Hi guys, I need some ideas 💡 Im on a project at the mo, bungalow with loft conversion, extension and full refurb downstairs. The roof is covered by clear tarps, but we had some leaks due to tarps being worn / damaged ( now fixed ) The concrete floor where the extension joins the existing...

    Finding or building a workshop

Welcome 10k doesn't go far 😔 certainly wouldnt get you a piece of land around here.... and anything with an existing building is priced higher as theres a possibility of conversion. A good 40ft high top container costs about £3500 by the time youve got delivery, vat and lock boxes on it. Then...
