Best time of year for TS purchase

Hi Yegap, I can't advise on time of year, but i would advise you to save your cash and get something that will exceed your current ambitions. I started woodworking about a year ago and used mainly hand tools. I bought a router because it was a "good deal", and I bought a BS250 bandsaw because...

Was i being greedy? - router table advice

On Sunday i used my Trend T11 router in the CRT Mk3 router table with a 6.3mm twin flute straight bit from the trend starter set. The aim being to cut a 5mm dado in some ABW. I managed about 13cm in length before the bit snapped at the bottom of the flutes. I emailed Trend indicating I wasn't...

    Opinion on router bit

I think this is where the problem was for me. I used mdf scraps and had limited success - the mdf being the same thickness. I used some maple and it made a pigs ear of it. I also think i had the router speed too high for this size of cutter. Will feedback some more when i have time to have go...

    Opinion on router bit

I bought one of the axcalibur ones a few days ago. I've only had one go with it, but it seems quite difficult to setup. Made a total fubar of the piece i was working on. I will persevere with it for a few goes and see how it goes.

    New Bandsaw Advice - RP BS400 / 350S / Sabre350

Well i've just got back from a long trip to the nearest RP dealer to me (Snaintons). Bad news was he had just sold his last Sabre 350 the night before. I think thats the model I am going to go with. The BS400 is just a tad too big for the space i have, the BS350 looks a little flimsy around the...

    New Bandsaw Advice - RP BS400 / 350S / Sabre350

having little luck with getting any discounts on the phone. Tried Snaintons and was quoted list price. Tried record power direct to be told there were no offers or anything coming up. So i'll either suck it up and pay full whack, but more likely wait a while for a show. Yandles is too far...

    Axminster pricing

Except for the development costs, servers, technicians, running costs, data centres, warehouses, distribution networks, buying costs etc. Personally i prefer to look at (significant) purchases before i buy, so am prepared to a premium for the high street presence. But if a significant discount...

    New Bandsaw Advice - RP BS400 / 350S / Sabre350

the Startrites are out of my budget range. If i can get the discounts people have indicated, then it will likely be the BS400. Didn't get chance to get to Snainton's over the weekend, hopefully next weekend. thanks for the feedback everyone.

    New Bandsaw Advice - RP BS400 / 350S / Sabre350

do you do much resawing Mike? The footprint of the 350 is ideal for me (and price) but i want this to be the last bandsaw i buy and resawing is the feature i s see as most important to me. If the 350 can handle it, then thats what i will go with. Ian

    New Bandsaw Advice - RP BS400 / 350S / Sabre350

great point Mike - I'm not really fussed about having the greatest and latest, as long as it does the basics and resaws 8-10" I will be happy. I've read probably every thread on here about bandsaws (there are lots :-) ) - and will 99% buy new, but could be tempted by a nearly new / pristine...

    Currys/PCworld

another vote for the junk email address. That said my current (real) email address is getting 40 ish per day and 99% is junk (or axminster :-) ) I will be creating a new one soon and abandoning the current one. One of the main issues is around "big" data, where the internet conglomerates...

    New Bandsaw Advice - RP BS400 / 350S / Sabre350

Evening All, I've pretty much made up my mind to buy a new BS. The principal reason is for resawing - i will try to explain. I currently have a BS250 - which has been brilliant (once i bought some tuffsaw blades) for dimensioning timber. It will be coming up for sale very soon if anyone is...

    Ultex diamond stones offer

I use wet and dry down to 1200 grit, then a strip of the hermes 2500 film on that gadget - not the ultex stones. Works a treat and I got to make it into the bargain ;-)

    Ultex diamond stones offer

Hi Memzey - I made something similar to one of these - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2YzzR660r8 - my kitchen knives (Global) have never been sharper. It also resurrected some old knives i had too.
