    Office Furniture

It's just over six months ago since I started this thread, and I’ve finally completed the prototype for this office furniture build. A couple of things has held me up. Firstly, I wanted a cabinet finishing for the front bedroom, which I started after this thread and finished about a month or...

    Ceiling for workshop

I've just done something similar, but as I am on my own for things like this i decided fixing large sheets of ply would be a PITA.SO I went with 8mm T&G internal cladding. My garage workshop was very drafty, and fixing these up and putting some rockwool type insulation has made a huge...

What are you really bad at?

Haha Mike - the singing one resonates with me ;-) I am under the strictest of instructions from SWMBO that I am to mime any songs when we are at family weddings / funerals etc. Every now and then I'll join in for a laugh and you should see the faces of folk turning round thinking "who the...

    lockdown haircuts

Hair is still relatively trim - had it cut just before the lock down. When it's ready I'll be getting the same hairdresser to give me the same cut she's been giving me for the last 32 years - no lockdown will stop me getting my haircut ;-) Mind you I have been married to her for 29 of those...

Clamps and where to start !

Well I guess it depends on what you are wanting to clamp. I use these from Wilko for small clamps. https://www.wilko.com/wilko-speed-clamp-6in/p/0339068 . I've had a few for about 3 years now and the only thing wrong with them is the rubber pads are starting to split. I've had a number of...

    What are you making today?

this morning I started drawing out the next jewellery box I plan to make. After that I routed two channels out of my new workbench - cum - assembly table - cum - outfeed table, so the cross cut and 45 degree sleds can be used with the adjacent table saw. Then I made half a dozen clamping...

Do many hobbyists own planer thicknessers?

Yup - bought an axminster AC PT something or other last year and sold my Metabo lunchbox thicknesser (which was a great tool BTW) to a member on here. As for extraction I have the RP DX1000 - the cheapest model and it performs well. The only downside is the number of times I have to empty it -...

Cabinet Scraper Burnisher - Which of the three?

Hi Damo, The technique point was the purpose of my post. I used the same (my) technique and 2 different burnishers. There was a difference in the results , the arno being better IMO. Now I have no vested interest in either, other than when I wasn't getting a good result, I was put off using the...

Cabinet Scraper Burnisher - Which of the three?

Today, I had a little bit of time before I got into the project of the day. I decided to test the Crown rod burnisher against the Arno. I have a set of these. https://www.axminster.co.uk/veritas-sup ... ers-476257 I picked a thin one and thick one for each type of burnisher and followed...

Anyone doing any woodworking this weekend?

I know Mike , I know. But SWMBO didn't want it to intrude into the room more than it needed to. There is a bed to the left of the unit, and the path between them was to be "as wide as possible" BTW - this is the first piece in that bedroom of a much bigger project - eventually (work gets in the...

    Latest Vodafone rip-off

I've just binned off BT Broadband. Apparently, my contract ended a few months ago and they upped the charge by £28 per month to £59. They never bothered to tell me this. Fleecing two hats When I eventually realised, I rang them, gave them a piece of my mind - politely - asked what they were...

Anyone doing any woodworking this weekend?

Finished this yesterday. It's got a few flaws. It's a smidgen out of square, which shows on a couple of the mitre joints. Used Osmo satin as a finish on the maple and the veneered panels are darker than the maple frames. I need to make an infill piece for that bottom shelf. I'm...

Cabinet Scraper Burnisher - Which of the three?

I’ve tried the bog std type like the axi one. It was a Crown tools one i picked up cheap at the harrogate show a couple of years ago. I thought it worked ok, but i always struggled to get decent shavings. After watching a Matt Estlea video on the Arno burnisher , i bought one (had some xmas...

Recommend me a Nailer / Stapler

Does anyone have any experience or view on this kit https://www.airsupplies.co.uk/senco-pc1 ... ug-in-work Would 9 litre tank cope with applying finishes? I don't make huge amounts of furniture, but do have a full office build coming up in May & spray finish would be nice. thanks

Recommend me a Nailer / Stapler

Thanks for all the advice folks, I think I will invest in a decent silent compressor. Probably the Bambi BB24v. So can i ask a (daft) question? Do you need to discharge the air in the tank when the compressor is left for a while? i.e. if I charge the compressor, use it, recharge, then leave...

I think the uk importer is Gaggia Direct. That's where i bought my bean to cup machine. Their service details are here https://www.gaggiadirect.com/maintenanc ... epair.html - service prices included on there too. The have branches in Elland, Castleford and Braintree. They offered me some...

    0.5mm pencil leads.

I have the same issue too. I use a Rotring mechanical pencil, and HB leads. Love the incra rules and how easy they are to mark up with, but going through lead quickly. Best approach i've found is to have the lead protruding just enough to get through the rule.

Recommend me a Nailer / Stapler

Evening All, I occasionally would like to use a nailer / stapler and keep looking at the Air/ Cordless / Electric options out there. I would like to use one for temporary holding together of frames / boxes / pedestals etc, possibly some upholstery and probably fixing some speaker wires into...
