How many tool kits have some of you got.

It is always interesting to see pictures and read reviews of the high end tools that many forum members seem to favour but what happens when you need to work outside in the middle of winter reparing the fence or refitting the workshop door? Shurley you don't use the same tools for jobs like that.

    Improve Cheap Table saw

I'm quite happy to accept that you absolutely have superior knowledge to me of table saws at all levels of quality. In my experience lower price saws have less adjustments than higher price saws but with a bit of ingenuity can be made to perform as well. I hope the op has been encouraged by...

    ........

You are far more skilled with the scroll saw than i will ever be but the problem i see is that with the items you make by joining your wood with biscuits you will end up cutting into them thus spoling your work. I would just butt joint the wood with glue.

    Improve Cheap Table saw

Not true the most important adjustment on any table saw is that the rip fence is parallel to the blade. If having made that adjustment you find that the miter slots are not parrell to the blade the worst outcome is that the kerf is wider than the blade but with a sled made to compensate for this...

    Rebuild or Replace Dewalt RAS

Don't understand where this Idea comes from that the ras is a machine that is so dangerous nobody should consider using one. I bought mine new in the 1980s long before the scms had been invented and although I would not consider ripping on it i consider it to be one of the most accurate and...

    Rebuild or Replace Dewalt RAS

Do yourself a favour and fix up the ras. Most people haven't got one these days because they cost the best part of £2000 but there is a good reason for that.

    Which SCMS for workshop use?

If you are obsessive over accuracy as you say don't even think about replacing your ras with a scms just spend the most frustrating day of your life setting up and servicing the ras and it will give you years of accurate service.

    Improve Cheap Table saw

To make a cross cut sled would take less than an hour to make and would be as accurate as you care to make it even on the cheapest of table saws.

    Rebuild or Replace Dewalt RAS

A properly set up dewalt ras will out perform any scms but it does take time to adjust properly.

    How much do offcuts cost?

The value of anything comes down to the price that people are happy to pay. You spent a tenner on some offcuts that you were happy to pay and will enjoy using and will create something that you are happy with and enjoyed making. Someone else may go to the local pub and spend that on 2 pints and...

    Interesting tool at Lidl.

Can't see the problem here the discription clearly states that the tool is 4v and is for cutting fabrics and is not really a woodworking tool. With a powerful 4V Li-Ion battery for cordless operation Includes 4 different attachments: Torque control attachment with adjustable auto-stop – ideal...

Some More Machine Advice Please - Planer Thicknesser

I know nothing about your particular machines but if you are trying to achieve tolerance's of less than 5 thou in your wood machining you will drive yourself round the bend.

Can you help me identify and value my step dads machines

I live about 10 miles from Bedford. I am not looking to purchase any of your machines but would be happy to come and look and give you my advice. I am conscious that one day my family will be in the same position with the contents of my workshop and I would help you in the same way that I hope...

There is so much confusion about identifying the old kity machines I think you need to post a picture of yours before anyone can advise you.

    Inca 205 bandsaw - what's missing?

I hope that you can sort this out. I have had mine from new and it is a very capable machine able to do tasks far greater than it's physical size would suggest. If you need plctures or diamentions of any parts just ask.

    Lidl oscillating multitool

If the blades supplied with the multi tool are as good as their circular saw blades you will be amazed at the quality.

    Fretworker website

I think that it is brilliant that someone with your knowledge of the old Hobbies company has decided to take the time to document the history. I would keep the hobbies info separate from the info on other makes on your site. I would also contact the new hobbies company who do or did run a...

My first scroll-saw. Now, what to do with it?

My advice would be to give up with the paper glue and parcel tape and just use self adhesive labeles and keep the backing paper to add designs to your work direct from your printer

    Workshop Must Have's...

Well I can only apologise if my reply came across as being grumpy it was not intended. The OP asked how we started and I started a long time ago and with the most basic of tools and although I have now moved on the skills I learned at the time have stood me in good stead.
