Do yourself a favour and fix up the ras. Most people haven't got one these days because they cost the best part of £2000 but there is a good reason for that.

If you are obsessive over accuracy as you say don't even think about replacing your ras with a scms just spend the most frustrating day of your life setting up and servicing the ras and it will give you years of accurate service.

To make a cross cut sled would take less than an hour to make and would be as accurate as you care to make it even on the cheapest of table saws.

I know nothing about your particular machines but if you are trying to achieve tolerance's of less than 5 thou in your wood machining you will drive yourself round the bend.

There is so much confusion about identifying the old kity machines I think you need to post a picture of yours before anyone can advise you.
