I was born in Luton 70 years ago when Luton was a thriving industrial town I remember as a child a large railway goods yard and 3 wheel (I think that they were called scarabs or something like) that delivering the goods from the yard to factorys all over Luton.

    Electric vehicles - again

I dont see much point in this debate. The fact (that nobody wants to accept) is that we all need to drive smaller cars that use less energy of any type.

Gosh. Things have changed since I last did "proper woodwork".

It is amazing how things have changed in the last 50 years of my woodworking. My first "machines" were attachments for my Stanley Bridges drill these included my first table saw. lathe. sander, jig saw and pillar drill there were no affordable options for anything else and a router or planer...

    Queen Elizabeth has passed away.

What the hell is it with some of you blokes. A woman who has done nothing against any of you and has given her whole life to an effort to only do the best for this country and many other countries has passed away.

Somebody stop me.... Imminent Festool purchase

If you can afford it buy what what you want while you are alive. If you want the best solution buy a used Dewalt 125 powershop radial arm saw and build it into a bench, once setup properly it will be the most accurate saw you could want and takes up very little space.

    Car dilemma

To make a sensible comment we would need a lot more info but it is important to remember that a dealer does have a lot of costs and responsibility when reselling your car. The truth is that the cars they are selling at around £4000 are probably no better than the one you have got and you may be...

    Screw extractors that actually work

Sad day - Lidl drill RIP

I think that some people will say that they are rubbish all I can say is that I purchased 3 18v tools from lidl about 5 years ago they have all had very serious diy use and they all still work well and the batteries still hold a good charge so we must all make our own minds up about what is...

I have a Dewalt radial arm saw and always felt that I needed a dado set to go with it and in the end I bought a second hand one but I hardly ever use it that is not because it scares me or that I think I am doing something that will end up with me being in a&e with my fingers in a bag It simply...

    Scroll saw recommendations

To be honest before you will be able to make clocks and other gears you will need a lot of practice and you may even find that you don't enjoy it. An expensive machine is no guarantee that you will get good results.

I am a huge fan of the Zyliss vice so much so that I have 4 complete kits. Some time ago I tried to do some research into the history of it but could not find much info. The first kit I bought was from a show about 40 years ago and it has Swiss Made cast into the front jaw and has a red handle...
