    Electric Planer Vs Planer

There’s always a better tool than a handheld power planer. Maybe useable for removing crap off a board ready to be machined but definitely not for anything that needs a tiny degree of accuracy.

Planing a board flat - Is there literally no light when testing with a straight edge?

Read your article, very informative. I was just curious if it became a problem the more boards you had in your panel, the ones further out needing to move more than the central boards.

Cabinet hinge for über thick doors...?

I understand, there’s more than one cabinet in a run. To further compound your problem, a hinge that pushes your door out to clear the one on the hinge side might bind with the one on the lock side. Would you have room to put a spacer strip in between the cabinets?

Cabinet hinge for über thick doors...?

Projects like this should be designed with available ironmongery in mind otherwise you run into problems. I can’t really see what the problem is unless they’re hinged on the central divider and need to open like a butterfly?

    Plane fettling

I could ride a horse to work every day if I chose to, admittedly It would take more time but still get me to my destination. Thankfully there are quicker more convenient ways to go about it so I choose not to, however, should my car not work, public transport be on strike, bike had a puncture...

    Plane fettling

I could get a board edge flat with a block plane and straight edge if that was all I had. It’s all to do with knowledge and practice not how many thou your plane’s out by.

Planing a board flat - Is there literally no light when testing with a straight edge?

Doing two boards at once isn’t a very good way as it relies on your ability to get those edges perfectly straight, slightly out and the gap’s doubled when both are put together.

Planing a board flat - Is there literally no light when testing with a straight edge?

When planing an edge one of the best ways to quickly tell if it’s flat or thereabouts is the sound the straightedge makes when you place it on the wood. Flat always sounds different and is a single crack, very distinctive and different to when it’s not flat.
