    Broke my compass plane

I’m no engineer but it’s an odd size with a flat on the crests if I remember correctly.

Can anyone tell me how this table has been made?

    Please don’t copy that, it’s a monstrosity.

    Wheelie bin dust collector.

You’d need something to support the pipe in the middle whilst empty though.

    Wheelie bin dust collector.

Great point, our extractor at work takes 240l wheelie bin bags and when full it’s quite heavy. The weight isn’t really the problem, it’s removal from the bin as the full bag’s packed tight against the inner walls.

Cutting groove into door for drop seal

Just be aware that a 35mm deep groove will probably compromise that door’s structural integrity as there isn’t much depth either side of the lock block.

    Marples M Hand Planes

The new light blue Record planes with the threaded lever cap are junk, however I prefer the older dark blue versions to the Stanleys. I’m not sure why, just feels nicer 🤔 Ideally the Marples would have nice thick castings so I could justify buying an M5 I’ve seen, if they don’t then making a...

    Marples M Hand Planes

I fancy getting one of these to try out as I’ve never seen one for sale except on eBay and didn’t even know Marples made cast iron hand planes up until last year. I’ve many Record and Stanley hand planes but haven’t got a Marples. Does anyone know if the castings are thicker on these Marples M...

DeWalt table saw from Workinger Ltd - anyone heard of this seller?

I used to own an ELU flip saw up until twenty years ago. Avoid as it’s a compromise on both functions with limited capabilities on both sides.

    Removing cup from chessboard

Overkill, try my method first and once flat cover it all with your desired finish.

    Removing cup from chessboard

I suspect you’ve left it uncovered with the dished side on top? This has the effect of unequal drying with the side on top drying more than the underside, causing this cupping. If you turn the chessboard upside down leaving the underside exposed for a few days with some stickers underneath it...

    Soil pipe dust extraction branch?

I modified one our machines at work with a couple of plastic blast gates but they failed the yearly test as they had to be steel/cast aluminium. I can’t remember the exact reason but I think it was to do with static and that they couldn’t be earthed.

    Riving knife with crosscut sled

We had our Machinery training refresher last year and he was an advocate of two push sticks. Got a couple of those Axminster ones by the saw, great quality and length and very cheap considering.

    Riving knife with crosscut sled

I find it funny how the guys who do this for a living are all basically saying the same thing, and the ones who don’t are having none of it 🤷‍♂️

    Riving knife with crosscut sled

It just goes against everything I’ve been taught really, and there’s always a better tool than a sled. If you had a sled with an open end with space for the riving knife to pass through whilst the crown guard was still attached it might be ok, otherwise I wouldn’t recommend one.

    Riving knife with crosscut sled

Sleds are dangerous pieces of equipment and should be avoided at all costs if you value your fingers.

Absolutely, YouTube has a lot to answer for!

    Elu ETS 21

I used to own a TGS 173 up until around fifteen years ago or so, built like a tank, strong quiet motor, weighed a ton and didn’t do either function very well 😀

    Elu ETS 21

I remember that machine as I nearly purchased a reconditioned one in 2004. An extremely nice machine with an induction motor and typical Elu build quality, hope you find your manual and get it working.
