If they’re just unthreaded holes the nearest sized metric bolt will do.

What improvements do you think i could make to my jig?

I rip then run it over the surfacer, rip again and surface, that way there’s only one face to clean up and there’s always a straight reference against the fence.

    Trend T8EK router stiff mechanism

Hi, I’ve got the equivalent DeWalt router at work fixed to a router table. I can confirm it’s quite stiff to adjust, which is probably due to the stiff springs required to work against its weight when stood on its baseplate. A popular thing years ago with the old Ryobi 1/2” was to remove the...

Nice upgraded jointer planer on eBay

That looks a nice machine, cutter block seems to have been upgraded as well.

What improvements do you think i could make to my jig?

The waste always goes on the outside with the timber required going between blade and fence. Whether you’re ripping just one or a thousand the fence doesn’t need to be moved.

    Old or Unusual Power Tools

Got the exact same one I purchased twenty years ago when Machine Mart were clearing out their Elu stock. It’s got plenty of power but does suffer a bit with vibration.

What improvements do you think i could make to my jig?

Kerf is accounted for between blade and fence when used that way, same as when you set the fence on a circular saw. I’ve never heard of sawn veneer being fitted straight from the saw, I would think it’s essential to ensure a secure adhesive bond.

What improvements do you think i could make to my jig?

Which part would you like clarification on?

What improvements do you think i could make to my jig?

One major flaw I see is that you always want the cut timber to be between blade and fence, which is the opposite to what you’ve got in your picture. I suggest you redesign your jig so it works in conjunction with the fence, fitting between it and the blade. Perhaps substitute the white polygon...

MFT-style vs. Trad-style workbench design (is there a middle ground??)

I’ve never heard that description before but it’s 100% true.

MFT-style vs. Trad-style workbench design (is there a middle ground??)

Just build a traditional joiners bench but without the tool well(more pain than help) and apron(can’t clamp anything as the apron’s in the way), with a Record 52 1/2 vice, simple but very effective.

    11mm dado over 5m. 40 times.

A Apart from the superior waste clearance would you say the groove’s internals are cleaner compared to a two flute cutter?

    11mm dado over 5m. 40 times.

I’ve never used a spiral cutter, are the benefits speed of cut due to quicker chip clearance or is it also a cleaner cut?

Advice to a 15 yo wanting a woodwork career

It’s nothing new as there was a girl in the year above me in college way back in the Eighties. In another part of the building and two years below me there was a girl doing a bricklaying apprenticeship.

Advice to a 15 yo wanting a woodwork career

It was a City and Guilds Craft Certificate, then third year was an Advanced Craft Certificate. Next step would have been a HNC but as I wouldn’t get paid for that weekly Day Release I stupidly decided it wasn’t for me. Having that HNC would have opened up a lot of career opportunities.

Advice to a 15 yo wanting a woodwork career

As an Apprentice Joiner in Technical College I’d say the academic work was one step up from anything I’d done at school, and whilst I didn’t go on to Sixth Form I was Set 2 in most things.

Advice to a 15 yo wanting a woodwork career

Cabinet making’s a degree course in a lot of colleges and universities, I suspect training to be a luthier would be similar. The Carpentry and Joinery course was also three years at Technical College in my day as well.

    Makita cordless biscuit jointer?

Cables are a right pain and get tangled up with the hose very easily, and just create more clutter in your workspace.

    Makita cordless biscuit jointer?

I’ve got the corded version, purchased around twenty years ago. The main reason I purchased it was because of the fence in that it goes past 90° to 135° meaning you can reference from the face of a mitred joint. It also has a solid fence with a slit to see the pencil mark, meaning small timber...

    Series 3: Britain's Best Woodworker

To be fair to Norm, he was a skilled tradesman and knew how to use those tools both hand and powered.
