    Work holding - CNC

I saw a video of someone using plastic brad nails to secure workpiece to spoil board. Didn't know these existed, anyone tried them ?

    Powered Respiratory Protection

I have the axminster one and I wear 3m ear protectors with the headand over the top without any issue, just have to adjust them to take into account the extra height. Life is easier if you have back of head or in ear protection simply for the fact of being able to remove the repirator without...

    Work holding - CNC

It was more of a general question on what methods people use, than for a specific project. Last weekend I was attempting to cut some french cleat brackets out of 18mm plywood, this weekend I'm going to attempt to carve a logo into some wood (yet to be determined which type) coasters. I like...

    Work holding - CNC

I'm curious what methods people use for work holding when cnc machining. I was using some double sidded tape last weekend and ended up wasting multiple bits of wood due to the tape failing. I've used super glue and blue tape before which works well, but feels a bit of a faff. I've used some...

    Dust mask advice please

I bought one of these when I got a lathe and it's been one of my best purcahses. I find dust masks to be a little suffocating, especially for longer peroids. No such issue with this. It's definately overkill for hand tool work though, I don't wear any dust mask for the majority of my hand tool...

Collection of 3d printing files relevant for woodworking

That's pretty cool, could always modify the files if you needed a different offset. I'm a fan of the rebate method as it allows you to hide the groove for a bottom panel if needed, but the method above would be quicker and usefull when you don't need to hide a groove. Going to print this and...

Added a tool tray/well to my Cosman bench. Think I'm mostly done on this for now, time to actually use it. Ignore the mess haha still rearranging things and trying to find places for stuff.

Absolutely stunning mate. I really wanna get back into trying some kumiko again, I just need to remake my table saw jig for cutting the thin strips.

If you clamp something on the one side of the vice, the opposite end will close too causing the jaws to angle and lose grip. Bad explanation sorry.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Yeah it wasn't cheap, but thought for the amount of use it'll get might as well try a nice one. My old one was a Axminster Professional Plain Screw Vice, which I might try and mount as a face vice if I feel like I need one. It's not a bad vice and I do think some of my issues with it were due...

Thanks, nah the vice is a Sjoberg Adjustable Vise, it's meant to be anti racking, which was a big issue with my old one. Not had chance to test it out yet, but seems pretty solid and fairly easy to install too.

Still got some clean up on the legs but my Rob Cosman bench is mostly done. Next I want to add a tool tray to it. Been pretty fun to build. The hardest part was ripping the sheets of plywood into strips.

Solid Wood Edgebanding on MDF Workbench Top

Few bits I need to clean up, but happy with how it's turned out so far.

Solid Wood Edgebanding on MDF Workbench Top

Thanks for the suggestion, I was going to put the smaller bits between longer ones anyway as the visible end will be covered by vice. Didn't think about not glueing it to itself at the corners, thanks. I've decided to go with dominos and glue in top layer. Set the depth of domino to 25mm for...

Solid Wood Edgebanding on MDF Workbench Top

That's a good point. I got some off cuts from the top so I can do a test to see if it causes any issues, I don't imagine it will. Just a bit paranoid of runining the top ha.

Solid Wood Edgebanding on MDF Workbench Top

I was considering using domino's on either the middle layer or bottom layer of mdf, wanna avoid the top layer just in case there is any swelling or anything.

Solid Wood Edgebanding on MDF Workbench Top

I'm currently building a Rob Cosman workbench, one of the additions he has made is to add a solid wood edgebanding to protect the mdf edges. He uses torrefied wood to eliminate and movement and glues it directly to the mdf edges. The top is made up of 3 1 inch layers of mdf glued together. I...

    Porch door build advice

The previous owners of my house removed the porch door, with the colder months approaching I'd love to put something in place to keep some of the heat it/cold out. I don't know what the best approach would be, whether to mirror the existing set up, ie door with two glass panes either side or...
