Schoolboy error ref’ Stanley 5 1/2 Type 11 Cutter Size

G and M Tools used to carry a lot of blades for older planes. Google will tell you they are permanently closed but that's because they have moved premises.

    Insulated feral cat house

How can it be a known figure and an estimate? Most of these surveys are flawed in their methodology, for example the BTO conducted a survey to find the hunting habits of cats, then used the averages for the 1-3 age group (most prolific age group, by 5 it drops markedly) then multiplied that by...

Skomo Table Saw - Brook Crompton motor wiring weirdness

Bottom left corner of photo 5 has an earth symbol above what appears to be a blue screw head in a recess. Can't help with anything else on that one though, sorry. Lookin at the way it's wired at the moment I'd get a friendly electrician to take a look unless you are familiar with electrics

Nearly put this in the joke thread

Can't wait for tourist season next summer. Some of the locals were fished out of a very shallow gene pool so there are a few who like to while away their time standing on the kerb watching the cars and lorries passing along the Fosse. I can just see a couple of burly truckers escorting them...

    Anyone made a wooden head?

Layers stacked together for me, I'd use James' suggestion, cutting the slices vertically front to back then rasp and sand to shape as I'm useless at carving.

    Wanted Stabilizing wood

Try the thin CA glue from Screwfix, I've used it on very punky spalted hornbeam with good results (albeit small pieces). If you flood the surfaces and let it sink in well, then dry it well before turning it should work. It doesn't stick to plastic bags so a couple of 'bags for life' may be...

    Pricing advice

Back in my pub days food prices were calculated by 3x ingredient cost, I've done 3x blank cost for turning and that seems to work. NIce pieces by the way

Barn door construction questions (what timber sizes to use)

I expect you are way ahead of me here but timber from an agricultural merchant tends to be rather damp, will that cause you a problem on a door with heat one side? Also, those hinge mount pins are available as 'pin to weld' as you've got a metal door frame. I'd be tempted to use the sort that...

    Chair making books/literature.

When my daughter was about that age I made a table and chairs for her play house, nothing fancy, mostly glued and screwed. The sizing I got from the Collins Complete Woodwork book, there's a good section on design which will help you scale it to her height (+ a bit for the time it'll take to make )

Some turning advice for an oak fan vault tas-de-charge.

I think I misread the size as 9” not 6", so was thinking it was nearly double the actual size. Think I'd still go with spindle and end grain hollowing. The thinking on the tool rest being as close as possible to the workpiece is, as I understand it, to reduce the force exerted on the tool...

Some turning advice for an oak fan vault tas-de-charge.

From a fairly amateur perspective if I were doing this I'd turn it as a spindle, leave a couple of extra inches either end shaped for mounting in the chuck, then part through the centre as far as I'd dare. Saw through the rest of the parted bit, re mount in the chuck, and hollow each piece in...
