A post about nothing much at all.

Ah, now that fork, with the middle prongs removed and the other two bent out at 90 Deg halfway down, is just the thing for raised pointing on certain types of stone walling.

    Arc welder Rods/Sticks storage

I've used some that were at least 10 years old and got a reasonable result. Mind you my welding can look like the bottom of a budgies cage

After 30 plus years of indoctrination my wife is nearly as bad as me 😄

Best protection for outdoor teak bench

Don't oil it just before the time of year you want to use it most, damhikt

How do you do it? Your business

If memory serves the leading was done in house, along with fake stained glass, then it would be sent up to Kidderminster or Birmingham to be made into units.

    Woodworm!

The marks left look very much like you would see under the bark of a dead elm, would suspect Dutch elm beetle. The holes on the end look more like typical woodworm (anobium punctata?). Is that wood soft there?.

How do you do it? Your business

Many years back I worked for a firm doing DG, the chap who did the replacement units carried a roll of lining paper, masking tape and a black crayon. Did all the leaded stuff in situ like a brass rubbing, brought it back to the workshop, laid it on the bench under the glass and stuck the lead...

Looks like the plasma cutter is in stock soon in the UK, £119 this time. It's the one you need to hook a compressor up to Expect they'll have sold out by the time I get there again

    Hedgehog cage help!

Pleased you got it sorted. Most importantly, what do the hedgehogs think of them?

    Spray (or other) glue

Don't bother with the stuff from crafter's companion, it's cheap for a reason  I've found copydex pretty good for sticking copier paper to lino, being latex based it doesn't wrinkle the paper like PVA. Think it should have enough open time to do what you need, might help to have a...

    Hedgehog cage help!

Useful, thanks. Guess I've been lucky so far then, but I go very slowly and with little pressure in 'grabby' material.

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Almost embarrassed to put this up here but this is a rigid heddle loom I made. Having looked at the cost of these online, and finding someone in Oxford giving away the metal part I had one of those 'how hard can it be?' moments. One pallet and a trawl of the internet later this was the result...

That's very similar to my excuse: I love my 6 pack so much I protect it with a layer of fat

    Lathe for a beginner

Thanks for the reminder about the 127 tooth changewheel, definitely something to look for as I think I'll need it. Saw your reply on an old thread regarding checking the ways etc so will bear that in mind. If I could find a hardinge for that money at the moment I'd be very happy.

    Hedgehog cage help!

If you can drill slowly with a sharp bit you can bolt through the perspex. The roofing type bolts in the picture are quite smooth so could be put facing inwards

    Lathe for a beginner

I shall be following the thread with interest Dalboy. Certainly agree with the point about size, I have a jet 1442 wood lathe and the ability to turn everything from toothpicks to chair backs has been invaluable. As for 'old iron', I think that may be the way to go. The trailer is rated at 2...

    Lathe for a beginner

I'm lucky enough to have inherited a fair amount of tooling and measuring equipment, although if it's anything like wood turning there'll always be another 'thing' to get 😄

    Lathe for a beginner

Thought I'd ask what people would suggest for a lathe. I have thought about getting a metalworking lathe for a while, and can see lots of little repair/improvement jobs for one already. Ideally something bench mounted due to space, capable of screw cutting and some simple milling. Thinking 3.5...
