    Tracing water ingress.

A garden pump sprayer to squirt water around the suspect areas. Done on a dry day and do a bit at a time starting at the bottom. Blue food dye added to the water will show up on a paper towel and washes off. If nothing shows up then repeat using an air line to mimic effect of wind. Had a similar...

    Drying wood

I recall an article in the woodturning magazine many years ago where someone (Alan Holtham possibly) had built a drying box based on a Sauno kiln. Logosol now sell that system but iirc the DIY one used a 2kw fan heater for heat input and an old computer fan as an extractor at the top. There...

Would a record 52 or 52 1/2 work on my workbench? Alternatives?

Mine's coach screwed to the underside of an old school bench, as I couldn't get the rear jaw cut back into the bench I planted a board across the front of the bench once the vice was in place. I think a cross piece to support the back and that'd work for you

Anyone out there with a Charnwood W812? Can a drill chuck be fitted to the tailstock?

If the tailstock is hollow it will be possible. There's a chance it's not self ejecting in which case a knockout bar should get the tailstock centre out. Post a pic of the centre and someone will certainly be able to recognise what type it is

    Steam bending advice

You may have already heard of him, but Tom Raffield is worth looking up for information on steam bending. I can't help thinking you may have to go down to 2mm to get that sort of bend, although I've never done anything with that tight a radius

Are Scheppach HM254 mitre saws all the same quality depending where you buy them.

Bought one from Aldi on offer and for £70 I'm very pleased with it. Decent accuracy straight out of the box and three blades included (24, 40 and 60 tooth) although I'm sure they could be improved on. Couldn't find anything secondhand locally for that price and as mentioned before there's a...
