Drilling through the axial centre of a one meter length of wood

Shell augers can be had in a range of sizes, not just 8mm but that seems to be the most popular size for lamp cable. A well made shell auger like the one I linked to won't wander much in straight grained timber over about 900mm.

Drilling through the axial centre of a one meter length of wood

https://beyondtools.com/en-gb/products/5mm-5-16-x-838mm-lamp-hole-auger-boring-spoon-bit-by-clifton This would do the job, but as others point out you really need to drill first and turn after. You would also need a lamp drive centre and a hollow tail centre

Passing Cyclists in UK with a car Genuine help question

This could be the perfect thing to bridge the potholes on our local lane. It's part of a national cycle route and in the mile or so to the main road there's only one spot where a cyclist could ride at the edge without ending up in a ditch because the surface is so uneven.

    Cheap but good table saw.

    Love the disclaimer :ROFLMAO:

    Squirrels.

Dinosaurs were native but would you really want to re-introduce them? Most of what we call native has only been here since the last ice age and got across before the water rose. Human meddling helped the rest

    Grass

Chickens will shift it. Had a real problem with moss at the last place so kept moving a chicken ark around the lawn. Scarified and fertilised in one pass, never had moss again and the bonus of eggs (although for what the ark cost the eggs should have been gold plated )

    Grass

I have double dug with a mini digger on a large project before now, couldn't be bothered to dig out 150 rose bushes cos my back doesn't like the workout any more. Reckon if we don't get any more rain this week it might be safe to do by the weekend.

    Grass

Quick soil test: take a pinch, wet it and rub it between the fingers. If it feels silky with no grittiness you've got pure clay. If it's slightly gritty and smears dark brown it's loam, and if very gritty a sandy soil. Add a few drops of vinegar, if it foams it's chalky soil. There's all sorts...

    Grass

In this situation I'd want to dig a hole about 18 inches deep in the worst spot to check the soil profile. If the soil is clay and has been compacted then rotovating wil form a smeared surface, or pan, which wil result in the gardening equivalent of stirring porridge in a bowl. To do it right...

    "FACT!"

That reminds me of a workmate who used to feed his spaniels on tripe, I'm sure it was just so no-one would ask him for a lift to site

Post a photo of the last thing you made

If it's from a tree surgeon it's probably leylandii. Horrible hedges but a good dense timber

    gotta say........

Had family living in northern France through the 90's and I remember buying Stihl equipment on visits as it was about ⅔ the UK price back then. I remember people complaining about price hikes after the euro came in but this thread has been quite an eye opener
