How best to straighten a bent spool pin?

If all else fails one of these would probably fit https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271777815753?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=p7rWbY9EQRO&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=_XwgzqajSc-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Would they advise the same for a wisteria? It has more root system than many Japanese maples

Advice on loading above tree roots

Acers come in many shapes and sizes, Acer dissectum cultivars are rarely more than 8ft fully grown, whereas Acer pseudoplatanus is the common sycamore. Whilst the advice to remove it is worth considering I would advise restraint until the precise cultivar is known

Advice on loading above tree roots

If there's room I'd put some slabs down to set the water butt on. The roots will spread out around the tree so you will only be covering a small percentage of the total area and the butt will be around 300kg all in

Looking for turning profile templates for sale

https://amzn.eu/d/60IojZh Sounds like this could be useful. Reviews mention the designs are drawn on a grid so should allow scaling to suit your project

    How would you fix this?

Probably a silly question and no help to the op, but would drilling a 3 mm hole from the side of the door be enough to check for a lock block? I'm thinking if it breaks through in 30mm or so you've got an answer, and 3mm is a small hole to plug

    sharpening turning tools

Grab a copy of Keith Rowley's book. It'll tell you all you need to know at this stage without over complicating it. Looks like they are mostly carbon steel, so slow and steady on the grinder with plenty of water to cool if required

    what best to plant ...

You're a braver man than I, Phil. Always like to see bees working, and for the most part they are fine. There's a nest of wild bees in a chimney at work and a few years back it must have had an aggressive queen, they were a complete nuisance that season and I ended up looking (more) like the...

    what best to plant ...

There's some good variegated ivies- hedera helix 'Gold Child', 'Sulphur Heart', or 'Oro di Bogliasco'. Small ones planted top and bottom would fill in the space well. 'Sulphur Heart' is very vigorous but less likely to root in well

    what best to plant ...

If you don't mind bees whilst it's in flower you could do worse than cotoneaster horizontalis. Planted at the bottom it can be persuaded to go up the bank by pinning the stems in the right place with some fence wire 'staples'. It will root as it goes, flowers and has berries, evergreen and needs...

    Using spanners

I've used them as a 'go-no go' gauge when cutting with a skew or bedan, but it sounds like you mean sharpening the spanner jaws? If you want to get behind a captive ring an Allen key can be sharpened to get in there

Day one of the current job and a bloke walked up, first thing he said was 'you're not a ruddy vegan are you?' 'some of my favourite foods are vegetarian' was the reply.
