    Helping out a family member

Getting all sorts of alarm bells here, as I think you have too. Think the advice to keep well away is spot on. If it was for someone like the mate you describe then yes, absolutely do it, but it sounds like you'll end up begrudging every day on site and nadgering your back or worse for people...

    Deadish Compressor

This is just thinking out loud but it sounds as if you may have a centrifugal switch for the start/run functions on that motor and it isn't switching as it should. Had a similar problem with a Jet lathe some years back and fixed it with excellent advice from Myfordman here. This video gives an...

    Whisky tumblers -advice please

Axminster AC370WL wood lathe. Speed lever issue.

I'm not familiar with that exact model but if it's a reeves drive then it may be in need of a bit of lubrication where the pulley halves slide on their shafts. A spray can of grease with a thin nozzle should get it where it is needed but use it sparingly

greenhouse, glasshouse, garden room, conservatory, crystal palace

Having once worked in a walled kitchen garden with Victorian wooden glasshouses all I can say is think very carefully about access for maintenance/painting

    EBay info

+1 for speaking to eBay, we've found them very helpful in the past. The advantage to this is you get back your fees and avoid negative feedback

I'd always thought of it as just the black sort, but there's some beautiful colours there Thanks for the link Phil

Clarke BS1 Belt Sander - Roller Bearings in front roller - cannot find replacements???

My first ports of call would be either Bearing Boys or Simply Bearings, they seem to cover most things and are pretty helpful

    Wood 'Grown to shape'

There was a time when the woodsmen working an area would have known just the right trees for a particular job. Met a Sussex woodsman some years back who could tell you just where the right trees for a cruck frame were in his patch

    Block paving not draining problem

Has it always been a bit lower than the concrete? Reckon the joints are silted up by now so lifting the affected blocks, re dressing the bed below then jointing with fresh sand may well cure the problem

a new era of low cost, accessible and efficient heating?

These are available and sound like similar technology, reviewed very favourably on Robert Llewellyn's Fully Charged channel a while back. Look like they'd work well in the right situation https://www.herschel-infrared.co.uk/

Something about that website smacks of snake oil

    Mold

Might be time to think about a kiln for the green wood. I'm sure you could build a DIY one along the lines of a Sauno wood kiln, and I'm pretty sure there's a thread somewhere on here that includes one built from an old freezer. Moulds are nasty things and a b*gger to get rid of but your lungs...
