Combed Joint

Hi, I am busy with the same project, tilt ans turn windows, glazed walls with patio door, double doors all with Eurogroove style fittings. I use a pair of adjustable slotting cutters such as Omas on the moulder with shims to a centre chipper for the wider bridles. I have a Hammer moulder and...

    German Tilt and Turn Windows

Hi John, Yes it is nice. Interestingly Hammer have discontinued that model with the big surfacer as they felt it damaged sales of the Felder equivalent at twice the price! Unfortunately only my niece speaks German Cheers Brian

    gunstock joint

thanks both The stained glass was based on a Czeck Art Nouveau design I found and had the colours modified and made by a local artist in the Midlands. One problem I had forgotton is that the lower corner of the "gunstock" cannot be pared easily as the angle of the self moulding protrudes...

    gunstock joint

Gunstock doors are not easy but worth the effort, especially if you self mould them. I know it's more work but I dont think they look so good with planted mouldings and I certainly would not rout the mouldings after assembly. I made mine self moulded both sides and then bandsawed the incline...

    Autosketch files

Anyone any idea how to get autosketch (skf) files onto the forum?

    German Tilt and Turn Windows

That turned out, and remains, the problem. Believe it or not I ended up in a builders merchant in Munich as all the UK operators stock only gear for UPVC. Even Roto, the biggest (Agent Wagner in Gillingham) do not carry some timber parts in the UK although several parts are common to all...

    Rabbet block507 or skew 140N

Having recently gone through the same thought process I eventually decided on a LH LN 140 skew but in iron. I thought the iron would be more rigid and would not leave black marks if used occasionally on light timbers. It depoends if your RH or LH; but trimming tenons you need a LH plane if your...

    German Tilt and Turn Windows

You could say I got into rebates! A couple of shots of the finsihed windows (without alloy windowcills) [/img] [/img] I'll do some more work on the autosketch diagrams of the rebate details and sections which are mind numbing on some of the corner joints.

    German Tilt and Turn Windows

I recently mentioned I was making some T & T windows and had several queries asking for timber sections etc. I made mine using the Felder German Window guide which is, unfortunately, only available in German! I can add siome images of construction and the finished windows if anyone...

    Angled tenon and length

You need to be a bit careful with the trig as the actual length of timber may not be the actual hypotenuse as you have to allow for the width of the verticals and the fact that both ends will be oblique. I would draw it on Autosketch or use a hardboard template

    Lie Nielsen Plane advice

Again the 140, in iron and Left hand -assuming you trim most tenons with your right.

    Is it just me??

I think is has a much to do with the action as the mouth. Try holding the shave at an angle of about 30 deg. I find this cures the chatter.

    bifold WINDOW hardware

I found European hardware is light years ahead of UK. I am currently making german style Tilt and turn windows and doors and am using hardware fro Roto and Segeinia. Roto have a website and a UK agent called Wagner and the kit is available from local double glazing supplies companies

    Workbench WIP sketchup drawing

I think the tenons are right as they are but I agree the feet should be raised in the centre to make four contact points -unless you have a surface plate for a workshop floor! My own bench is very similar but, despite the heft and beech timber I was worried about racking and glued/screwed a ply...

    Replacement blades for Record 405.

Just a thought re the above. I have recently returned an Anant Bull nose plane because the sole was not square to the sides. I have a suspicion that these are finished by linishing, rather than surface grinding and will be a square as the fingers of the operator. To be fair Rutlands were very...

    Yet another newbie plane question

I'd go along with the LN 140 (Left hand Iron in my case). I have found the left hend version is more suited to right handed uyse for tenon trimming and other jobs particularly shooting small sections. Another alternative would be the LN rebating block plane which has many uses including trimming...
