Best material for filling a guitar

I use liberon wood filler http://www.liberon.co.uk/woodfinishing/ ... llers.html I'm not sure I'd go for P38 as it isn't very flexible (IMHO). I feel the wood filler, which I have used on a cherry tele I built to fill a couple of small tear outs, has not had any negative effect on the voice...

    PVA Log Sealer

Hey Duncan, have you thought of splitting the rounds yourself now to make the turning blanks? Ash loves to split down the pith in my experience. Steve

    QUIET dust extractor

Martin, Think about getting something like a Trend Airshield Pro. I have one - you get a constant stream of fresh air across your face. It is a bit cumbersome, but I no longer get itchy eyes or blocked nose after wood working. By contrast I have been doing some very light sanding of a...

Which Belt Sander for Floor Refinishing

I've found one in Warwick, so I will be speaking to the hire people tomorrow. Many thanks for the help folks. Steve

Which Belt Sander for Floor Refinishing

Looks a great bit of kit - any idea where you can hire them in the midlands? Cheers Steve

Which Belt Sander for Floor Refinishing

@Roger This is a resealing exercise, so "all" (ha ha) I need to do is get the existing finish off. I can live with the few deeper scratches as they add to the character. I had thought of simply giving it a good wash and go over with traffic wax. Not a proper job though and slippery as...

Which Belt Sander for Floor Refinishing

@phil.p If I were to use nitro-mors or a similar stripper, how would I get it off the floor. I have stripped a lot of window frames etc and had to wash them down, but they have been easy because gravity helps dry them out. Not sure how that will work on the floor. Steve

Which Belt Sander for Floor Refinishing

Thanks guys that is good advice and makes much better sense. Cheers Steve

Which Belt Sander for Floor Refinishing

We have sanded and sealed floorboards with loose rugs on all of our downstairs. When we first had it done, we didn't have the dog and the guy used a varnish finish. It has lasted well, but the dog has done too many handbrake turns in the hall and it needs to be refinished. This time I will go...

Where to buy PAR hardwood boards to make a bookcase

These guys are extremely helpful. If they don't have what you want in stock, they will get it in. It's probably an hour from you. They spent ages with me selecting timber for a project of mine and were happy to cut pieces to size on their machines. Wythall Sawmills Alcester Road...

    Quick workbench question.

Southern Yellow Pine is Christopher Schwarz's workbench material of choice.

    Afromosia

We had very nice afromosia dining furniture when I was a kid in the 60s. Not sure what happened to them. I think my Dad called it Rhodesian Teak. Close grain, lovely rich reddish colour. Easy to work with and get a nice finish. If you can store it, I'd take it in your shoes. Steve

Do you need a lathe to make a ring shape?

I'd buy a small lathe - they are a five minute job with a ring cutting tool.

    Exercise bikes ?

We have a very low mileage exercise bike which sits there making us feel guilty. Not sure I'd get another one. I guess it would be ok if you have somewhere to watch a tv or something whilst you exercise - otherwise it is pretty boring unless you are into fitness. I just asked my wife about...

    Finally! Warmth!

That looks like it will keep you very toasty indeed. I'm having to rely on the heat generated by my DX4000 dust extractor

    Music in the workshop

+1 Except when you are at a loose end, in which case there is little more satisfying than keeping cold callers on the phone pretending to be incredibly interested. It is also worth trying the "can you hang on for a couple of minutes whilst I answer the door" and putting the phone on the side...

    Chainsaw Instruction

That reminds me of a guitar making book I have in which the author says words to the effect "as you are making a guitar, I assume you will want to play it and that will be much easier if you still have all of your fingers" :D :D :D Steve

Hi Folks I am planning to buy a hollowing tool, but have no idea whether some are better than others and if so which. I'm all ears :D :D Steve
