    Shellac sealer spills on clothing

Hi Folks I have had a bit of a ****-up on the clothing front. I splashed Rustins Shellac Sanding Sealer all down my trousers, which are cotton chino type material. I am sure you, just as will my wife, will ask me why I was not wearing work gear. Well, you know how it is....thinks "this...

    M33 thread adapters

I have found one on a US site, so someone makes them. Unfortunately, it isn't going to be cost effective to import one. Thanks for everyone's help. I am finding it hard to believe that I am the only person in the UK who wants to adapt a m33 spindle to take a chuck milled for 1,1/4"!

    M33 thread adapters

Hi folks. I am looking for a m33 x 3.5 female to 1.25" x 8 tpi male thread exert adapter. I can find virtually any other size, except this one! I want to use the chucks from my Nova 1.25" spindle on my jet m33. Any ideas? Cheers Steve

    Axminster Black Friday Jet 1015vs

Small stuff is fine for what I want. As my bandsaw is also in storage, I was wondering about using a jig saw to cut round blanks. I guess I could buy pre cut blanks, but it goes against the grain (no pun intended). Cheers Steve

    Axminster Black Friday Jet 1015vs

I am a sucker for a discount and bought myself the Jet JWL 1015vs from Axminster in their Black Friday sale. I have been having withdrawal symptoms. My Nova 16-24 has been in storage since we moved two years ago. I don't have the space for it. I used to have the baby Perform 10" lathe, but...

Does meths colour bare wood? Guitar build.

I understand that brewing up crystal meth is very dangerous, so I'll stick to drinking methylated spirit!

Does meths colour bare wood? Guitar build.

You may well ask!! I have built the guitar, it has Rosewood bindings, so it would be relatively easy to pick up r/w when sanding the top. Carelessness is generally the cause of most problems in my workshop. I have several old bottles of meths in the workshop, so I could have been using a very...

Does meths colour bare wood? Guitar build.

Thanks for you responses. I did a little experiment. I dipped a spruce off cut in meths. No colour transfer at all. Still I am not ruling meths out as the culprit. So back to the drawing board. If it ain't meths, what else could possibly stain the wood purple? The luthiers among you may...

Does meths colour bare wood? Guitar build.

After sanding an area on a finished French Polished alpine spruce guitar top (don't ask why), I seem to have some faint purple staining in the area I have sanded. I used meths to clean off the shellac before carrying out a repair. Any ideas how I might bring the natural wood colour back...

Made in England Stanley 12-204 plane query

I have a 12-204 plane that I bought new around 20 years ago for not much money. It came packaged on a card in a plastic blister. It has the plastic handles etc and looks just like this: http://www.onlyqualitytools.com/catalog ... 2-204.html I think the spec is identical, so it looks like...

    When you're tired - take a break.

is that a recent photo? - how long did it take to heal?

    When you're tired - take a break.

The table has a Perspex cutter guard that sits right snug up to the work piece. It locks down in place making it impossible to touch the blade. I left it about 10-15mm above the work, leaving a finger sized gap to push my finger into. There really is no way to avoid reaching the conclusion that...

Thanks for the nice comments folks. It must really sting if you get your legs blown off by a roadside bomb.

    When you're tired - take a break.

I didn't and spent the afternoon at the local hospital A&E. I was having real trouble getting a book matched pair of spruce boards jointed with a hand plane on a shooting board to glue up for a guitar soundboard. The more frustrated I got the worse it seemed to get. So I thought "sod...

Table Saw Repair (fuse blows) Project - your suggestions...

Update: After a few attempts to get the motor working (and about 20 fuses!), I decided to give up and buy a new motor. Motor was around £75, so not too expensive. SIP Industrial Products sent me a replacement for one of the top pieces FOC (Thanks SIP!). Everything is now working as it should...

In Praise of SIP customer service re 01930 table saw

I'm generally quick to moan about bad customer service, but I often fail to give credit where credit's due. I bought a second-hand SIP 01930 10" table saw, from fleabay. It needed a new motor, which I was happy to replace as it was made clear in the advert. When I put it all back together, I...

Anyone built a tablesaw using a circular saw?

I thought about building my own table to use my circular saw inverted. I realised that it would be very difficult to use it tilted at an angle, so I decided to buy a spares or repair SIP lightweight table saw. They retail between £180 and around £250. Having stripped it down, I can see it is...

Thanks for your comment. I've ordered a set of brushes off that site for £4 delivered. I will give the commutators a good clean up and see if it makes any difference.
